Manasseh was twelveyearsoldwhen he began to reign, and he reignedfiftyand fiveyearsin Jerusalem: But did that which was evilin the sightof the LORD, like unto the abominationsof the heathen, whomthe LORDhad cast outbeforethe childrenof Israel. For he builtagainthe high placeswhichHezekiahhis fatherhad broken down, and he reared upaltarsfor Baalim, and madegroves, and worshipedallthe hostof heaven, and servedthem. Also he builtaltarsin the houseof the LORD, whereofthe LORDhad said, In Jerusalemshall my namebeforever. And he builtaltarsfor allthe hostof heavenin the twocourtsof the houseof the LORD. And hecaused his childrento passthrough the firein the valleyof the sonof Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt witha familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wroughtmuchevilin the sightof the LORD, to provoke him to anger. And he seta carved image, the idolwhichhe had made, in the houseof God, of whichGodhad saidtoDavidand toSolomonhis son, In thishouse, and in Jerusalem, whichI have chosenbefore allthe tribesof Israel, will I putmy nameforever: Neitherwill I any moreremovethe footof Israelfrom out ofthe landwhichI have appointedfor your fathers; so thatthey will take heedto doallthatI have commandedthem, according to the wholelawand the statutesand the ordinancesby the handof Moses. So Manassehmade Judahand the inhabitantsof Jerusalemto err, and to doworsethanthe heathen, whomthe LORDhad destroyedbeforethe childrenof Israel. And the LORDspoketoManasseh, and tohis people: but they would nothearken. Wherefore the LORDbroughtuponthem the captainsof the host ofthe kingof Assyria, whichtookManassehamong the thorns, and boundhim with fetters, and carriedhim to Babylon. And when he was in affliction, he besoughtthe LORDhis God, and humbled himselfgreatlybeforethe Godof his fathers, And prayeduntohim: and he was entreatedof him, and heardhis supplication, and brought him againto Jerusaleminto his kingdom. Then Manassehknewthatthe LORDhe was God. Now afterthishe builta wallwithoutthe cityof David, on the west sideof Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering inat the fishgateand compassed aboutOphel, and raised it up a very great height, and putcaptainsof warin allthe fencedcitiesof Judah. And he took awaythe strangegods, and the idolout of the houseof the LORD, and allthe altarsthathe had builtin the mountof the houseof the LORD, and in Jerusalem, and cast them out ofthe city. And he repairedthe altarof the LORD, and sacrificedthereonpeaceofferingsand thank offerings, and commandedJudahto servethe LORDGodof Israel. Neverthelessthe peopledid sacrificestillin the high places, yet unto the LORDtheir Godonly. Now the restof the acts ofManasseh, and his prayeruntohis God, and the wordsof the seersthat spoketohim in the nameof the LORDGodof Israel, behold, they are written inthe bookof the kingsof Israel. His prayeralso, and how God was entreatedof him, and allhis sin, and his trespass, and the placeswhereinhe builthigh places, and set upgrovesand graven images, beforehe was humbled: behold, they are writtenamongthe sayingsof the seers. So Manassehsleptwithhis fathers, and they buriedhim in his own house: and Amonhis sonreignedin his stead. Amon was twoand twentyyearsoldwhen he began to reign, and reignedtwoyearsin Jerusalem. But he did that which was evilin the sightof the LORD, asdidManassehhis father: for Amonsacrificedunto allthe carved imageswhichManassehhis fatherhad made, and servedthem; And humbled not himselfbeforethe LORD, as Manassehhis fatherhad humbled himself; butAmontrespassedmore and more. And his servantsconspiredagainsthim, and slewhim in his own house. But the peopleof the landslewallthem that had conspiredagainstkingAmon; and the peopleof the landmade Josiah his son kingin his stead.
