It came to passafterthisalso, that the childrenof Moab, and the childrenof Ammon, and withthem other besidethe Ammonites, cameagainstJehoshaphatto battle. Then there camesome that toldJehoshaphat, saying, There cometha greatmultitudeagainstthee from beyondthe seaon this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazon-tamar, which is En-gedi. And Jehoshaphatfeared, and sethimselfto seekthe LORD, and proclaimeda fastthroughoutallJudah. And Judahgathered themselves together, to ask help ofthe LORD: evenout of allthe citiesof Judahthey cameto seekthe LORD. And Jehoshaphatstoodin the congregationof Judahand Jerusalem, in the houseof the LORD, beforethe newcourt, And said, O LORDGodof our fathers, art notthouGodin heaven? and rulest not thouover allthe kingdomsof the heathen? and in thine hand is there not powerand might, so that noneis able to withstandthee? Art notthouour God, who didst drive outthe inhabitantsof thislandbeforethy peopleIsrael, and gavestit to the seedof Abrahamthy friendforever? And they dwelttherein, and have builtthee a sanctuarytherein for thy name, saying, If, when evilcomethuponus, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we standbeforethishouse, and in thy presence, ( forthy name is in thishouse,) and cryuntothee in our affliction, then thou wilt hearand help. And now, behold, the childrenof Ammonand Moaband mountSeir, whomthou wouldest notletIsraelinvade, when they cameout of the landof Egypt, butthey turnedfromthem, and destroyedthem not; Behold, I say, how theyrewardus, to cometo cast us outof thy possession, whichthou hast given us to inherit. O our God, wilt thou notjudgethem? forwe have nomightagainstthisgreatcompanythat comethagainstus; neitherknowwewhatto do: butour eyes are uponthee. And allJudahstoodbeforethe LORD, withtheir little ones, their wives, and their children. Then uponJahazielthe sonof Zechariah, the sonof Benaiah, the sonof Jeiel, the sonof Mattaniah, a Leviteofthe sonsof Asaph, camethe Spiritof the LORDin the midstof the congregation; And he said, Hearkenye, allJudah, and ye inhabitantsof Jerusalem, and thou kingJehoshaphat, Thussaiththe LORDunto you, Be not afraidnordismayedby reason ofthisgreatmultitude; forthe battle is notyours, butGod's. Tomorrowgo ye downagainstthem: behold, they come upby the cliffof Ziz; and ye shall findthem at the endof the brook, beforethe wildernessof Jeruel. Ye shall not need to fightin this battle : set yourselves, standye still , and seethe salvationof the LORDwithyou, O Judahand Jerusalem: fearnot, norbe dismayed; tomorrowgo outagainstthem: for the LORD will be withyou. And Jehoshaphatbowed his headwith his faceto the ground: and allJudahand the inhabitantsof Jerusalemfellbeforethe LORD, worshipingthe LORD. And the Levites, of the childrenofthe Kohathites, and ofthe childrenof the Korhites, stood upto praisethe LORDGodof Israelwith a loudvoiceon high. And they rose earlyin the morning, and went forthinto the wildernessof Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphatstoodand said, Hearme, O Judah, and ye inhabitantsof Jerusalem; Believein the LORDyour God, so shall ye be established; believehis prophets, so shall ye prosper. And when he had consultedwiththe people, he appointedsingersunto the LORD, and that should praisethe beautyof holiness, as they went outbeforethe army, and to say, Praisethe LORD; forhis mercy endureth forever. And whenthey beganto singand to praise, the LORDsetambushmentsagainstthe childrenof Ammon, Moab, and mountSeir, which were comeagainst Judah; and they were smitten. For the childrenof Ammonand Moabstood upagainstthe inhabitantsof mountSeir, utterly to slayand destroy them : and when they had made an endof the inhabitantsof Seir, every onehelpedto destroyanother. And when Judahcametowardthe watch towerin the wilderness, they lookeduntothe multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodiesfallento the earth, and noneescaped. And when Jehoshaphatand his peoplecameto take awaythe spoilof them, they foundamong them in abundanceboth richeswith the dead bodies, and preciousjewels, which they stripped offfor themselves, more thanthey could carry away: and they werethreedaysin gatheringof the spoil, itwas so much. And on the fourthdaythey assembled themselvesin the valleyof Berachah; fortherethey blessedthe LORD: thereforethe nameof the sameplacewas called, The valleyof Berachah, untothis day. Then they returned, everymanof Judahand Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphatin the forefrontof them, to go againtoJerusalemwith joy; forthe LORDhad made them to rejoiceover their enemies. And they cameto Jerusalemwith psalteriesand harpsand trumpetsuntothe houseof the LORD. And the fearof Godwasonallthe kingdomsof those countries, when they had heardthatthe LORDfoughtagainstthe enemiesof Israel. So the realmof Jehoshaphatwas quiet: for his Godgave him restround about. And JehoshaphatreignedoverJudah: he was thirtyand fiveyearsoldwhen he began to reign, and he reignedtwentyand fiveyearsin Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubahthe daughterof Shilhi. And he walkedin the wayof Asahis father, and departednotfromit, doing that which was rightin the sightof the LORD. Howbeitthe high placeswere nottaken away: for as yetthe peoplehad notpreparedtheir heartsunto the Godof their fathers. Now the restof the actsof Jehoshaphat, firstand last, behold, they are writtenin the bookof Jehuthe sonof Hanani, who is mentionedinthe bookof the kingsof Israel. And afterthisdid Jehoshaphatkingof Judahjoin himselfwithAhaziahkingof Israel, whodid very wickedly: And he joinedhimself withhim to makeshipsto goto Tarshish: and they madethe shipsin Ezion-geber. Then Eliezerthe sonof Dodavahof MareshahprophesiedagainstJehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyselfwithAhaziah, the LORDhath brokenthy works. And the shipswere broken, that they were not ableto gotoTarshish.
