So Abijahsleptwithhis fathers, and they buriedhim in the cityof David: and Asahis sonreignedin his stead. In his daysthe landwas quiettenyears. And Asadid that which was goodand rightin the eyesof the LORDhis God: For he took awaythe altarsof the strange gods , and the high places, and broke downthe images, and cut downthe groves: And commandedJudahto seekthe LORDGodof their fathers, and to dothe lawand the commandment. Also he took awayout of allthe citiesof Judahthe high placesand the images: and the kingdomwas quietbeforehim. And he builtfencedcitiesin Judah: forthe landhad rest, and he had nowarin thoseyears; becausethe LORDhad given him rest. Therefore he saidunto Judah, Let us buildthesecities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yetbeforeus; becausewe have soughtthe LORDour God, we have sought him , and he hath given us reston every side. So they builtand prospered. And Asahadan army of men that boretargetsand spears, out ofJudahthreehundredthousand; and out of Benjamin, that boreshieldsand drewbows, two hundredand fourscorethousand: allthese were mighty menof valor. And there came outagainstthem Zerahthe Ethiopianwith a hostof a thousandthousand, and threehundredchariots; and cameuntoMareshah. Then Asawent outagainsthim, and they set the battle in arrayin the valleyof Zephathahat Mareshah. And Asacrieduntothe LORDhis God, and said, LORD, it is nothingwiththee to help, whetherwith many, or with them that have nopower: helpus, O LORDour God; forwe restonthee, and in thy namewe goagainstthismultitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let notmanprevailagainstthee. So the LORDsmotethe EthiopiansbeforeAsa, and beforeJudah; and the Ethiopiansfled. And Asaand the peoplethat were withhim pursuedthem untoGerar: and the Ethiopianswere overthrown, that they could notrecoverthemselves; forthey were destroyedbeforethe LORD, and beforehis host; and they carried awayverymuchspoil. And they smoteallthe citiesround aboutGerar; forthe fearof the LORDcameuponthem: and they spoiledallthe cities; forthere wasexceeding muchspoilin them. They smotealsothe tentsof cattle, and carried awaysheepand camelsin abundance, and returnedto Jerusalem.
