Then Elishasaid, Hearye the wordof the LORD; Thussaiththe LORD, Tomorrowabout this time shall a measureof fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measuresof barleyfor a shekel, in the gateof Samaria. Then a lordonwhosehandthe kingleanedansweredthe manof God, and said, Behold, if the LORDwould makewindowsin heaven, might thisthingbe? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt noteatthereof. And there werefourleprousmenat the entering inof the gate: and they saidonetoanother, Whysitwehereuntilwe die? Ifwe say, We will enterinto the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall diethere: and ifwe sitstill here, we diealso. Nowtherefore come, and let us falluntothe hostof the Syrians: ifthey save us alive, we shall live; and ifthey killus, we shall but die. And they rose upin the twilight, to gountothe campof the Syrians: and when they were cometothe uttermost partof the campof Syria, behold, there was nomanthere. For the Lordhad made the hostof the Syriansto heara noiseof chariots, and a noiseof horses, even the noiseof a greathost: and they saidonetoanother, Lo, the kingof Israelhath hiredagainstus the kingsof the Hittites, and the kingsof the Egyptians, to comeuponus. Wherefore they aroseand fledin the twilight, and lefttheir tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the campasit was , and fledfortheir life. And when theseleperscametothe uttermost partof the camp, they wentintoonetent, and did eatand drink, and carriedthencesilver, and gold, and raiment, and wentand hid it ; and came again, and enteredintoanothertent, and carriedthence also , and wentand hid it . Then they saidonetoanother, Wedonotwell: thisday is a dayof good tidings, and wehold our peace: if we tarrytillthe morninglight, some mischiefwill come uponus: nowtherefore come, that we may goand tellthe king's household. So they cameand calleduntothe porterof the city: and they toldthem, saying, We cametothe campof the Syrians, and, behold, there was nomanthere, neither voiceof man, buthorsestied, and assestied, and the tentsasthey were . And he calledthe porters; and they told it to the king's housewithin. And the kingarosein the night, and saiduntohis servants, I will nowshowyou whatthe Syrianshave doneto us. They knowthatwe be hungry; therefore are they gone outofthe campto hide themselvesin the field, saying, Whenthey come outofthe city, we shall catchthem alive, and getintothe city. And oneof his servantsansweredand said, Let some take, I pray thee, fiveofthe horsesthat remain, whichare leftin the city, ( behold, they are as allthe multitudeof Israelthatare leftin it: behold, I say , they are even as allthe multitudeof the Israelitesthatare consumed:) and let us sendand see. They tooktherefore twochariothorses; and the kingsentafterthe hostof the Syrians, saying, Goand see. And they wentafterthem untoJordan: and, lo, allthe way was fullof garmentsand vessels, whichthe Syrianshad cast awayin their haste. And the messengersreturned, and toldthe king. And the peoplewent out, and spoiledthe tentsof the Syrians. So a measureof fine flourwas sold for a shekel, and two measuresof barleyfor a shekel, according to the wordof the LORD. And the kingappointedthe lordonwhosehandhe leanedto have the charge ofthe gate: and the peopletrod uponhim in the gate, and he died, asthe manof Godhad said, whospokewhen the kingcame downtohim. And it came to passas the manof Godhad spokentothe king, saying, Two measuresof barleyfor a shekel, and a measureof fine flourfor a shekel, shall betomorrowabout this timein the gateof Samaria: And that lordansweredthe manof God, and said, Now, behold, if the LORDshould makewindowsin heaven, might sucha thingbe? And he said, Behold, thou shalt seeit with thine eyes, but shalt noteatthereof. And soit fell outunto him: for the peopletrod uponhim in the gate, and he died.
