Now there crieda certainwomanof the wivesof the sonsof the prophetsuntoElisha, saying, Thy servantmy husbandis dead; and thouknowestthatthy servantdidfearthe LORD: and the creditoris cometo takeunto him my twosonsto be bondmen. And Elishasaiduntoher, Whatshall I dofor thee? tellme, whathastthou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaidhath notany thingin the house, savea potof oil. Then he said, Go, borrowthee vesselsabroadofallthy neighbors, even emptyvessels; borrow not a few. And when thou art come in, thou shalt shutthe dooruponthee and uponthy sons, and shalt pour outintoallthosevessels, and thou shalt set asidethat which is full. So she wentfromhim, and shutthe dooruponher and uponher sons, whobrought the vessels toher; and shepoured out. And it came to pass, when the vesselswere full, that she saiduntoher son, Bringme yeta vessel. And he saiduntoher, There is nota vesselmore. And the oilstayed. Then she cameand toldthe manof God. And he said, Go, sellthe oil, and paythy debt, and livethouand thy childrenof the rest. And it fellon a day, that ElishapassedtoShunem, where was a greatwoman; and she constrainedhim to eatbread. And so it was, that as oftas he passed by, he turned inthitherto eatbread. And she saiduntoher husband, Beholdnow, I perceivethatthis is a holymanof God, which passeth byus continually. Let us makea littlechamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us setfor him therea bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he comethtous, that he shall turn inthither. And it fellon a day, that he camethither, and he turnedintothe chamber, and laythere. And he saidtoGehazihis servant, CallthisShunammite. And when he had calledher, she stoodbeforehim. And he saidunto him, Saynowuntoher, Behold, thou hast been carefulforus withallthiscare; what is to be donefor thee? wouldestthou be spokenfor tothe king, ortothe captainof the host? And she answered, Idwellamongmine own people. And he said, Whatthen is to be donefor her? And Gehazianswered, Verilyshe hath nochild, and her husbandis old. And he said, Callher. And when he had calledher, she stoodin the door. And he said, About thisseason, according to the timeof life, thoushalt embracea son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou manof God, do not lieunto thine handmaid. And the womanconceived, and borea sonat thatseasonthatElishahad saiduntoher, according to the timeof life. And when the childwas grown, it fellon a day, that he went outtohis fathertothe reapers. And he saiduntohis father, My head, my head. And he saidtoa lad, Carryhim tohis mother. And when he had takenhim, and broughthim tohis mother, he satonher kneestillnoon, and then died. And she went up, and laidhim onthe bedof the manof God, and shut the door uponhim, and went out. And she calleduntoher husband, and said, Sendme, I pray thee, oneofthe young men, and oneof the asses, that I may runtothe manof God, and come again. And he said, Whereforewilt thougotohim today? it is neithernew moon, norsabbath. And she said, It shall be well. Then she saddledan ass, and saidtoher servant, Drive, and go forward; slacknot thy ridingfor me, exceptI bidthee. So she wentand cameuntothe manof GodtomountCarmel. And it came to pass, when the manof Godsawher afar off, that he saidtoGehazihis servant, Behold, yonder is thatShunammite: Runnow, I pray thee, to meether, and sayunto her, Is it wellwith thee? is it wellwith thy husband? is it wellwith the child? And she answered, It is well. And when she cametothe manof Godtothe hill, she caughthim by the feet: but Gehazicame nearto thrust her away. And the manof Godsaid, Let her alone; forher soul is vexedwithin her: and the LORDhath hid it fromme, and hath nottoldme. Then she said, Did I desirea sonofmy lord? did I notsay, Do notdeceiveme? Then he saidto Gehazi, Gird upthy loins, and takemy staffin thine hand, and go thy way: ifthou meetany man, salutehim not; and ifanysalutethee, answerhim notagain: and laymy staffuponthe faceof the child. And the motherof the childsaid, As the LORDliveth, and as thy soulliveth, I will notleavethee. And he arose, and followedher. And Gehazipassed onbeforethem, and laidthe staffuponthe faceof the child; but there was neithervoice, norhearing. Wherefore he went againto meethim, and toldhim, saying, The childis notawaked. And when Elishawas comeinto the house, behold, the childwas dead, and laiduponhis bed. He went intherefore, and shutthe dooruponthem twain, and prayeduntothe LORD. And he went up, and layuponthe child, and puthis mouthuponhis mouth, and his eyesuponhis eyes, and his handsuponhis hands: and he stretchedhimself uponthe child; and the fleshof the childwaxed warm. Then he returned, and walkedin the houseto and fro; and went up, and stretchedhimself uponhim: and the childsneezedseventimes, and the childopenedhis eyes. And he calledGehazi, and said, CallthisShunammite. So he calledher. And when she was comein untohim, he said, Take upthy son. Then she went in, and fellathis feet, and bowed herselfto the ground, and took upher son, and went out. And Elishacame againto Gilgal: and there was a dearthin the land; and the sonsof the prophets were sittingbeforehim: and he saidunto his servant, Set onthe greatpot, and seethepottagefor the sonsof the prophets. And onewent outintothe fieldto gatherherbs, and founda wildvine, and gatheredthereofwildgourdshis lapfull, and cameand shred them intothe potof pottage: forthey knew them not. So they poured outfor the mento eat. And it came to pass, as they were eatingof the pottage, that theycried out, and said, O thou manof God, there is deathin the pot. And they couldnoteat thereof . But he said, Then bringmeal. And he cast it intothe pot; and he said, Pour outfor the people, that they may eat. And there wasnoharmin the pot. And there camea manfrom Baal-shalisha, and broughtthe manof Godbreadof the firstfruits, twentyloavesof barley, and full ears of cornin the huskthereof. And he said, Giveunto the people, that they may eat. And his servitorsaid, What, should I setthisbeforea hundredmen? He saidagain, Givethe people, that they may eat: forthussaiththe LORD, They shall eat, and shall leave thereof . So he set it beforethem, and they did eat, and left thereof , according to the wordof the LORD.
