And he wroughtevilin the sightof the LORD; butnotlike his father, and like his mother: for he put awaythe imageof Baalthathis fatherhad made. Neverthelesshe cleavedunto the sinsof Jeroboamthe sonof Nebat, whichmade Israelto sin; he departednottherefrom. And Meshakingof Moabwasa sheepmaster, and renderedunto the kingof Israela hundredthousandlambs, and a hundredthousandrams, with the wool. But it came to pass, when Ahabwas dead, that the kingof Moabrebelledagainst the kingof Israel. And kingJehoramwent outof Samariathe sametime, and numberedallIsrael. And he wentand senttoJehoshaphatthe kingof Judah, saying, The kingof Moabhath rebelledagainst me: wilt thou gowithme againstMoabto battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art , my peopleas thy people, and my horsesas thy horses. And he said, Whichwayshall we go up? And he answered, The waythrough the wildernessof Edom. So the kingof Israelwent, and the kingof Judah, and the kingof Edom: and they fetched a compassof sevendays' journey: and there wasnowaterfor the host, and for the cattlethatfollowedthem. And the kingof Israelsaid, Alas! thatthe LORDhath calledthesethreekingstogether, to deliverthem into the handof Moab! But Jehoshaphatsaid, Is there notherea prophetof the LORD, that we may inquireof the LORDbyhim? And oneof the kingof Israel's servantsansweredand said, Here is Elishathe sonof Shaphat, whichpouredwateronthe handsof Elijah. And Jehoshaphatsaid, The wordof the LORDiswithhim. So the kingof Israeland Jehoshaphatand the kingof Edomwent downtohim. And Elishasaiduntothe kingof Israel, Whathave I to do with thee? getthee tothe prophetsof thy father, and tothe prophetsof thy mother. And the kingof Israelsaidunto him, Nay: forthe LORDhath calledthesethreekingstogether, to deliverthem into the handof Moab. And Elishasaid, As the LORDof hostsliveth, beforewhomI stand, surely, were it notthat Iregardthe presenceof Jehoshaphatthe kingof Judah, I would not looktowardthee, norseethee. But nowbringme a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrelplayed, that the handof the LORDcameuponhim. And he said, Thussaiththe LORD, Makethisvalleyfull of ditches. Forthussaiththe LORD, Ye shall notseewind, neithershall ye seerain; yet thatvalleyshall be filledwith water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts. And thisis but a light thingin the sightof the LORD: he will deliverthe Moabitesalso into your hand. And ye shall smiteeveryfencedcity, and everychoicecity, and shall felleverygoodtree, and stopallwellsof water, and mareverygoodpiece of landwith stones. And it came to passin the morning, when the meat offeringwas offered, that, behold, there camewaterby the wayof Edom, and the countrywas filledwithwater. And when allthe Moabitesheardthatthe kingswere come upto fightagainst them, they gathered allthat were able to put onarmor, and upward, and stoodinthe border. And they rose up earlyin the morning, and the sunshoneuponthe water, and the Moabitessawthe wateron the other side as redas blood: And they said, This is blood: the kingsare surely slain, and they have smittenoneanother: nowtherefore, Moab, to the spoil. And when they cametothe campof Israel, the Israelitesrose upand smotethe Moabites, so that they fledbeforethem: but they wentforward smitingthe Moabites, even in their country. And they beat downthe cities, and on everygoodpieceof land castevery manhis stone, and filledit; and they stoppedallthe wellsof water, and felledallthe goodtrees: onlyin Kir-haraseth leftthey the stonesthereof; howbeit the slingerswent about it , and smoteit. And when the kingof Moabsawthatthe battlewas too soreforhim, he tookwithhim sevenhundredmenthat drewswords, to break through even untothe kingof Edom: but they couldnot. Then he tookhis eldestsonthatshould have reignedin his stead, and offeredhim for a burnt offeringuponthe wall. And there wasgreatindignationagainstIsrael: and they departedfromhim, and returnedto their own land.
