And the kingsent, and they gathereduntohim allthe eldersof Judahand of Jerusalem. And the kingwent upinto the houseof the LORD, and allthe menof Judahand allthe inhabitantsof Jerusalemwithhim, and the priests, and the prophets, and allthe people, both smalland great: and he readin their earsallthe wordsof the bookof the covenantwhich was foundin the houseof the LORD. And the kingstoodbya pillar, and madea covenantbeforethe LORD, to walkafterthe LORD, and to keephis commandmentsand his testimoniesand his statuteswith all their heartand all their soul, to performthe wordsof thiscovenantthat were writteninthisbook. And allthe peoplestoodto the covenant. And the kingcommandedHilkiahthe highpriest, and the priestsof the second order, and the keepersof the door, to bring forthout of the templeof the LORDallthe vesselsthat were madefor Baal, and for the grove, and for allthe hostof heaven: and he burnedthem withoutJerusalemin the fieldsof Kidron, and carriedthe ashesof them unto Bethel. And he put downthe idolatrous priests, whomthe kingsof Judahhad ordainedto burn incensein the high placesin the citiesof Judah, and in the places round aboutJerusalem; them also that burned incenseunto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to allthe hostof heaven. And he brought outthe grovefrom the houseof the LORD, withoutJerusalem, untothe brookKidron, and burnedit at the brookKidron, and stamped it smallto powder, and castthe powderthereof uponthe gravesof the childrenof the people. And he broke downthe housesof the sodomites, that were by the houseof the LORD, wherethe womenwovehangingsfor the grove. And he broughtallthe priestsout of the citiesof Judah, and defiledthe high placeswherethe priestshad burned incense, from GebatoBeer-sheba, and broke downthe high placesof the gatesthat were in the entering inof the gateof Joshuathe governorof the city, which were ona man's left handat the gateof the city. Neverthelessthe priestsof the high placescame not uptothe altarof the LORDin Jerusalem, butthey did eatof the unleavened breadamongtheir brethren. And he defiledTopheth, which is in the valleyof the childrenof Hinnom, that nomanmight make his sonor his daughterto pass throughthe fireto Molech. And he took awaythe horsesthatthe kingsof Judahhad givento the sun, at the entering inof the houseof the LORD, bythe chamberof Nathan-melech the chamberlain, which was in the suburbs, and burnedthe chariotsof the sunwith fire. And the altarsthat were onthe topof the upper chamberof Ahaz, whichthe kingsof Judahhad made, and the altarswhichManassehhad madein the twocourtsof the houseof the LORD, did the kingbeat down, and broke them downfrom thence, and castthe dustof them intothe brookKidron. And the high placesthat were beforeJerusalem, which were on the right handof the mountof corruption, whichSolomonthe kingof Israelhad builtfor Ashtoreththe abominationof the Zidonians, and for Chemoshthe abominationof the Moabites, and for Milcomthe abominationof the childrenof Ammon, did the kingdefile. And he broke in piecesthe images, and cut downthe groves, and filledtheir placeswith the bonesof men. Moreoverthe altarthat was at Bethel, and the high placewhichJeroboamthe sonof Nebat, whomade Israelto sin, had made, boththataltarand the high placehe broke down, and burnedthe high place, and stamped it smallto powder, and burnedthe grove. And as Josiahturnedhimself, he spiedthe sepulchersthat were therein the mount, and sent, and tookthe bonesout ofthe sepulchers, and burned them uponthe altar, and pollutedit, according to the wordof the LORDwhichthe manof Godproclaimed, whoproclaimedthesewords. Then he said, Whattitle is thatthatIsee? And the menof the citytoldhim, It is the sepulcherof the manof God, whichcamefrom Judah, and proclaimedthesethingsthatthou hast doneagainstthe altarof Bethel. And he said, Let him alone; let nomanmovehis bones. So they let his bones alone, withthe bonesof the prophetthatcameout of Samaria. And allthe housesalsoof the high placesthat were in the citiesof Samaria, whichthe kingsof Israelhad madeto provoke the LORD to anger, Josiahtook away, and didto them according to allthe actsthathe had donein Bethel. And he slewallthe priestsof the high placesthat were thereuponthe altars, and burnedmen's bonesuponthem, and returnedto Jerusalem. And the kingcommandedallthe people, saying, Keepthe passoverunto the LORDyour God, as it is writteninthe bookof thiscovenant. Surelythere was notholdensucha passoverfrom the daysof the judgesthatjudgedIsrael, nor in allthe daysof the kingsof Israel, nor of the kingsof Judah; Butin the eighteenthyearof kingJosiah, wherein thispassoverwas holdento the LORDin Jerusalem. Moreoverthe workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and allthe abominationsthatwere spiedin the landof Judahand in Jerusalem, did Josiahput away, thathe might performthe wordsof the lawwhich were writteninthe bookthatHilkiahthe priestfoundin the houseof the LORD. And like unto himwasthere nokingbeforehim, thatturnedtothe LORDwith allhis heart, and with allhis soul, and with allhis might, according to allthe lawof Moses; neitherafterhim arosethere any like him. Notwithstandingthe LORDturnednotfrom the fiercenessof his greatwrath, wherewithhis angerwas kindledagainst Judah, becauseof allthe provocationsthatManassehhad provokedhim withal. And the LORDsaid, I will removeJudahalsoout ofmy sight, asI have removedIsrael, and will cast offthiscityJerusalemwhichI have chosen, and the houseof whichI said, My nameshall bethere. Now the restof the actsof Josiah, and allthathe did, are theynotwritteninthe bookof the chroniclesof the kingsof Judah? In his daysPharaoh Nechokingof Egyptwent upagainstthe kingof Assyriatothe riverEuphrates: and kingJosiahwentagainsthim; and he slewhim at Megiddo, when he had seenhim. And his servantscarriedhim in a chariot deadfrom Megiddo, and broughthim to Jerusalem, and buriedhim in his own sepulcher. And the peopleof the landtookJehoahazthe sonof Josiah, and anointedhim, and made him kingin his father's stead. Jehoahaz was twentyand threeyearsoldwhen he began to reign; and he reignedthreemonthsin Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal, the daughterof Jeremiahof Libnah. And he did that which was evilin the sightof the LORD, according to allthathis fathershad done. And Pharaoh Nechoput him in bandsat Riblahin the landof Hamath, that he might not reignin Jerusalem; and putthe landto a tributeof a hundredtalentsof silver, and a talentof gold. And Pharaoh NechomadeEliakimthe sonof Josiahkingin the roomof Josiahhis father, and turnedhis nameto Jehoiakim, and tookJehoahazaway: and he cameto Egypt, and diedthere. And Jehoiakimgavethe silverand the goldto Pharaoh; buthe taxedthe landto givethe moneyaccordingto the commandmentof Pharaoh: he exactedthe silverand the goldof the peopleof the land, of every oneaccording to his taxation, to give it unto Pharaoh Necho. Jehoiakim was twentyand fiveyearsoldwhen he began to reign; and he reignedelevenyearsin Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Zebudah, the daughterof PedaiahofRumah. And he did that which was evilin the sightof the LORD, according to allthathis fathershad done.
