And the sonsof the prophetsthat were at Bethelcame forthtoElisha, and saiduntohim, Knowestthou thatthe LORDwill take awaythy masterfromthy headtoday? And he said, Yea, Iknow it ; hold ye your peace. And Elijahsaidunto him, Elisha, tarryhere, I pray thee; forthe LORDhath sentme to Jericho. And he said, As the LORDliveth, and as thy soulliveth, I will notleavethee. So they cameto Jericho. And the sonsof the prophetsthat were at JerichocametoElisha, and saiduntohim, Knowestthou thatthe LORDwill take awaythy masterfromthy headtoday? And he answered, Yea, Iknow it ; hold ye your peace. And Elijahsaidunto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; forthe LORDhath sentme to Jordan. And he said, As the LORDliveth, and as thy soulliveth, I will notleavethee. And they twowent on. And fiftymenof the sonsof the prophetswent, and stoodto viewafar off: and they twostoodbyJordan. And Elijahtookhis mantle, and wrapped it together, and smotethe waters, and they were dividedhitherand thither, so that they twowent overon dry ground. And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that ElijahsaiduntoElisha, AskwhatI shall dofor thee, beforeI be taken awayfromthee. And Elishasaid, I pray thee, let a doubleportionof thy spiritbeuponme. And he said, Thou hast askeda hard thing: nevertheless , ifthou seeme when I am takenfromthee, it shall besounto thee; but ifnot, it shall notbe so . And it came to pass, as theystill went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariotof fire, and horsesof fire, and partedthem bothasunder; and Elijahwent upby a whirlwindinto heaven. And Elishasaw it , and hecried, My father, my father, the chariotof Israel, and the horsementhereof. And he sawhim nomore: and he took holdof his own clothes, and rentthem in twopieces. He took upalso the mantleof Elijahthatfellfromhim, and went back, and stoodbythe bankof Jordan; And he tookthe mantleof Elijahthatfellfromhim, and smotethe waters, and said, Where is the LORDGodof Elijah? and when healsohad smittenthe waters, they partedhitherand thither: and Elishawent over. And when the sonsof the prophetswhich were to viewat Jerichosawhim, they said, The spiritof Elijahdoth restonElisha. And they cameto meethim, and bowed themselvesto the groundbefore him. And they saiduntohim, Beholdnow, there bewiththy servantsfiftystrongmen; let them go, we pray thee, and seekthy master: lest peradventurethe Spiritof the LORDhath taken him up, and casthim upon somemountain, orinto somevalley. And he said, Ye shall notsend. And when they urgedhim tillhe was ashamed, he said, Send. They senttherefore fiftymen; and they soughtthreedays, but foundhim not. And when they came againtohim, (for hetarriedat Jericho,) he saiduntothem, Did I notsayuntoyou, Gonot? And the menof the citysaiduntoElisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situationof this city is pleasant, asmy lordseeth: but the water is naught, and the groundbarren. And he said, Bringme a newcruse, and putsalttherein. And they brought it tohim. And he went forthuntothe springof the waters, and castthe saltin there, and said, Thussaiththe LORD, I have healedthesewaters; there shall notbefrom thenceany moredeathor barren land . So the waterswere healeduntothisday, according to the sayingof Elishawhichhe spoke. And he went upfrom thenceunto Bethel: and as hewas going upby the way, there came forthlittlechildrenout ofthe city, and mockedhim, and saidunto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turnedback, and lookedon them, and cursedthem in the nameof the LORD. And there came forthtwoshe bearsout ofthe wood, and torefortyand twochildrenofthem. And he wentfrom thencetomountCarmel, and from thencehe returnedto Samaria.
