But Jehosheba, the daughterof kingJoram, sisterof Ahaziah, tookJoashthe sonof Ahaziah, and stolehim from amongthe king's sons which were slain; and they hidhim, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamberfromAthaliah, so that he was notslain. And he waswith herhidin the houseof the LORDsixyears. And Athaliahdid reignoverthe land. And the seventhyearJehoiadasentand fetchedthe rulersover hundreds, with the captainsand the guard, and broughtthem tohim into the houseof the LORD, and madea covenantwith them, and took an oathof them in the houseof the LORD, and showedthem the king's son. And he commandedthem, saying, This is the thingthatye shall do; A third partofyou that enterin on the sabbathshall even be keepersof the watchof the king's house; And a third part shall be at the gateof Sur; and a third partat the gatebehindthe guard: so shall ye keepthe watchof the house, that it be not broken down. And twopartsof allyou that go forthon the sabbath, even they shall keepthe watchof the houseof the LORDaboutthe king. And ye shall compassthe kinground about, every manwith his weaponsin his hand: and he that comethwithinthe ranges, let him be slain: and beye withthe kingas he goeth outand as he cometh in. And the captainsover the hundredsdidaccording to all things thatJehoiadathe priestcommanded: and they tookevery manhis menthat were to come inon the sabbath, withthem that should go outon the sabbath, and cametoJehoiadathe priest. And to the captainsover hundredsdid the priestgivekingDavid's spearsand shields, that were in the templeof the LORD. And the guardstood, every manwith his weaponsin his hand, round aboutthe king, from the right cornerof the templetothe leftcornerof the temple, along by the altarand the temple. And he brought forththe king's son, and putthe crownuponhim, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointedhim; and they clappedtheir hands, and said, God savethe king. And when Athaliahheardthe noiseof the guard and of the people, she cametothe peopleinto the templeof the LORD. And when she looked, behold, the kingstoodbya pillar, as the manner was , and the princesand the trumpetersbythe king, and allthe peopleof the landrejoiced, and blewwith trumpets: and Athaliahrenther clothes, and cried, Treason, Treason. But Jehoiadathe priestcommandedthe captainsof the hundreds, the officersof the host, and saiduntothem, Have her forthwithoutthe ranges: and him that followethher killwith the sword. Forthe priesthad said, Let her notbe slainin the houseof the LORD. And they laidhandson her; and she wentby the wayby the which the horsescameinto the king's house: and therewas she slain. And Jehoiadamadea covenantbetweenthe LORDand the kingand the people, that they should bethe LORD's people; betweenthe kingalso and the people. And allthe peopleof the landwentinto the houseof Baal, and broke it down; his altarsand his imagesbroke they in piecesthoroughly, and slewMattanthe priestof Baalbeforethe altars. And the priestappointedofficersoverthe houseof the LORD. And he tookthe rulersover hundreds, and the captains, and the guard, and allthe peopleof the land; and they brought downthe kingfrom the houseof the LORD, and cameby the wayof the gateof the guardto the king's house. And he satonthe throneof the kings. And allthe peopleof the landrejoiced, and the citywas in quiet: and they slewAthaliahwith the sword beside the king's house. Sevenyearsold was Jehoashwhen he began to reign.
