But the kingcoveredhis face, and the kingcriedwith a loudvoice, O my sonAbsalom, O Absalom, my son, my son! And Joabcameinto the housetothe king, and said, Thou hast shamedthis daythe facesof allthy servants, which this dayhave savedthy life, and the livesof thy sonsand of thy daughters, and the livesof thy wives, and the livesof thy concubines; In that thou lovestthine enemies, and hatestthy friends. Forthou hast declaredthis day, thatthou regardest neitherprincesnor servants: forthis dayI perceive, thatifAbsalomhad lived, and allwe had diedthis day, thenit had pleased thee well. Nowtherefore arise, go forth, and speakcomfortablyunto thy servants: forI swearby the LORD, ifthou go not forth, there will nottarryonewiththee this night: and thatwill be worseunto thee than allthe evilthatbefellthee from thy youthuntilnow. And he hath slanderedthy servantuntomy lordthe king; but my lordthe king is as an angelof God: dotherefore what is goodin thine eyes. Forall of my father's housewerebutdeadmenbeforemy lordthe king: yet didst thou setthy servantamong them that did eatat thine own table. Whatrighttherefore haveI yetto cryany moreuntothe king? I am this dayfourscoreyearsold: and can I discernbetweengoodand evil? canthy servanttastewhatI eator whatI drink? canI hearany morethe voiceof singing menand singing women? whereforethen should thy servantbeyeta burdenuntomy lordthe king? Thy servantwill go a little way overJordanwiththe king: and whyshould the kingrecompenseit me with sucha reward? Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may diein mine own city, and be buried bythe graveof my fatherand of my mother. But beholdthy servantChimham; let him go overwithmy lordthe king; and doto him whatshall seemgoodunto thee. And allthe menof Judahansweredthe menof Israel, Becausethe king is near of kintous: whereforethen be ye angryforthismatter? have we eaten at allofthe king's cost ? orhath he given us any gift? And the menof Israelansweredthe menof Judah, and said, We have tenpartsin the king, and wehave alsomore right in Davidthanye: whythen did ye despiseus, that our adviceshould notbefirsthad in bringing backour king? And the wordsof the menof Judahwere fiercerthan the wordsof the menof Israel.
