And he commandedthe stewardof his house, saying, Fillthe men's sacks with food, as much asthey cancarry, and putevery man's moneyin his sack's mouth. And putmy cup, the silvercup, in the sack's mouthof the youngest, and his cornmoney. And he didaccording to the wordthatJosephhad spoken. As soon as the morningwas light, the menwere sent away, theyand their asses. And when theywere gone out ofthe city, and not yet far off, Josephsaidunto his steward, Up, followafterthe men; and when thou dost overtakethem, sayuntothem, Whereforehave ye rewardedevilforgood? Is notthis it in whichmy lorddrinketh, and whereby indeed he divineth? ye have done evilin sodoing. And he overtookthem, and he spokeuntothem these samewords. And they saiduntohim, Whereforesaithmy lordthesewords? God forbidthat thy servantsshould doaccording to thisthing: Behold, the money, whichwe foundin our sacks' mouths, we brought againuntothee out of the landof Canaan: howthen should we stealout of thy lord's housesilverorgold? Withwhomsoeverof thy servantsit be found, both let him die, and wealsowill bemy lord's bondmen. And he said, Nowalso let it be according unto your words: he withwhomit is foundshall bemy servant; and yeshall beblameless. Then they speedilytook downevery manhis sackto the ground, and openedevery manhis sack. And he searched, and beganat the eldest, and leftat the youngest: and the cupwas foundin Benjamin's sack. Then they renttheir clothes, and ladedevery manhis ass, and returnedto the city. And Judahand his brethrencameto Joseph's house; for he was yetthere: and they fellbeforehim on the ground. And Josephsaidunto them, Whatdeed is thisthatye have done? knowye notthatsuch a manas Ican certainly divine? And Judahsaid, Whatshall we sayunto my lord? whatshall we speak? or howshall we clear ourselves? Godhath found outthe iniquityof thy servants: behold, we are my lord's servants, bothwe, and he alsowith whomthe cupis found. And he said, God forbidthat I should doso: but the manin whosehandthe cupis found, heshall bemy servant; and as for you, get you upin peaceuntoyour father. Then Judahcame nearunto him, and said, Ohmy lord, let thy servant, I pray thee, speaka wordin my lord's ears, and let notthine angerburnagainst thy servant: forthou art even asPharaoh. My lordaskedhis servants, saying, Haveye a father, ora brother? And we saiduntomy lord, We havea father, an old man, and a childof his old age, a little one; and his brotheris dead, and healoneis leftof his mother, and his fatherlovethhim. And thou saidstuntothy servants, Bring him downuntome, that I may setmine eyesuponhim. And we saiduntomy lord, The ladcannotleavehis father: for if he should leavehis father, his father would die. And thou saidstuntothy servants, Exceptyour youngestbrothercome downwithyou, ye shall seemy facenomore. And it came to passwhenwe came upuntothy servantmy father, we toldhim the wordsof my lord. And our fathersaid, Go again, and buyus a littlefood. And we said, We cannotgo down: ifour youngestbrotherbewithus, then will we go down: forwe maynotseethe man's face, exceptour youngestbrother be withus. And thy servantmy fathersaiduntous, Yeknowthatmy wifeboreme two sons : And the onewent outfromme, and I said, Surelyhe is torn in pieces; and I sawhim notsince: And if ye takethisalsofromme, and mischiefbefallhim, ye shall bring downmy gray hairswith sorrowto the grave. Nowtherefore when I cometothy servantmy father, and the lad be notwithus; seeing that his lifeis bound upin the lad's life; It shall come to pass, when he seeththatthe lad is not with us , that he will die: and thy servantsshall bring downthe gray hairsof thy servantour fatherwith sorrowto the grave. Forthy servantbecame suretyfor the laduntomy father, saying, IfI bringhim notuntothee, then I shall bear the blameto my fatherforever. Nowtherefore, I pray thee, let thy servantabideinstead ofthe lada bondmanto my lord; and let the ladgo upwithhis brethren. Forhowshall I go uptomy father, and the lad be notwithme? lest peradventureI seethe evilthatshall come onmy father.
