And the messengersreturnedtoJacob, saying, We cametothy brotherEsau, and alsohe comethto meetthee, and fourhundredmenwithhim. Then Jacobwas greatly afraidand distressed: and he dividedthe peoplethat was withhim, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into twobands; And said, IfEsaucometothe onecompany, and smiteit, then the other companywhich is leftshall escape. And Jacobsaid, O Godof my fatherAbraham, and Godof my fatherIsaac, the LORDwhich saidstuntome, Returnunto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal wellwiththee: I am not worthyof the least of allthe mercies, and of allthe truth, whichthou hast showedunto thy servant; forwith my staffI passed overthisJordan; and nowI am becometwobands. Deliverme, I pray thee, from the handof my brother, from the handof Esau: forIfearhim, lesthe will comeand smiteme, and the motherwiththe children. And thousaidst, I will surely do thee good, and makethy seedas the sandof the sea, whichcannotbe numberedfor multitude. And he lodgedtherethat samenight; and tookofthat which cameto his handa presentfor Esauhis brother; Two hundredshe goats, and twentyhe goats, two hundredewes, and twentyrams, Thirtymilchcamelswith their colts, fortykine, and tenbulls, twentyshe asses, and tenfoals. And he delivered them into the handof his servants, every droveby themselves; and saiduntohis servants, Pass overbeforeme, and puta spacebetweendroveand drove. And he commandedthe foremost, saying, WhenEsaumy brothermeeteththee, and askeththee, saying, Whose art thou? and whithergoestthou? and whose are thesebeforethee? Then thou shalt say, They be thy servantJacob's; it is a presentsentunto my lordEsau: and, behold, alsohe is behindus. And socommandedhe the second, andthe third, andallthat followedthe droves, saying, On thismannershall ye speakuntoEsau, when ye findhim. And sayye moreover, Behold, thy servantJacob is behindus. Forhe said, I will appeasehim with the presentthat goethbeforeme, and afterwardI will seehis face; peradventurehe will acceptof me. So wentthe presentover beforehim: and himselflodgedthatnightin the company. And he rose upthatnight, and tookhis twowives, and his twowomenservants, and his elevensons, and passed overthe fordJabbok. And he tookthem, and sent them overthe brook, and sent overthathe had. And Jacobwas leftalone; and there wrestleda manwithhim untilthe breakingof the day. And when he sawthathe prevailednotagainst him, he touchedthe hollowof his thigh; and the hollowof Jacob's thighwas out of joint, as he wrestledwithhim. And he said, Let me go, forthe daybreaketh. And he said, I will notlet thee go, exceptthou blessme. And he saiduntohim, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy nameshall be callednomoreJacob, butIsrael: foras a prince hast thou powerwithGodand withmen, and hast prevailed. And Jacobasked him , and said, Tell me , I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost askafter my name? And he blessedhim there. And Jacobcalledthe nameof the placePeniel: forI have seenGodfacetoface, and my lifeis preserved. And ashe passed overPenuelthe sunroseupon him, and hehalteduponhis thigh. Thereforethe childrenof Israeleatnot of the sinewwhich shrank, which is uponthe hollowof the thigh, untothisday: becausehe touchedthe hollowof Jacob's thighin the sinewthat shrank.
