Now the serpentwasmore subtlethan anybeastof the fieldwhichthe LORDGodhad made. And he saiduntothe woman, Yea, hath Godsaid, Ye shall noteatof everytreeof the garden? And the womansaiduntothe serpent, We may eatof the fruitof the treesof the garden: But of the fruitof the treewhich is in the midstof the garden, Godhath said, Ye shall noteatofit, neithershall ye touchit, lestye die. And the serpentsaiduntothe woman, Ye shall notsurely die: ForGoddoth knowthatin the dayye eatthereof, then your eyesshall be opened, and ye shall beas gods, knowinggoodand evil. And when the womansawthatthe tree was goodfor food, and thatit was pleasantto the eyes, and a treeto be desiredto make one wise, she tookof the fruitthereof, and did eat, and gavealsounto her husbandwithher; and he did eat. And the eyesof them bothwere opened, and they knewthatthey were naked; and they sewedfigleavestogether, and madethemselves aprons. And they heardthe voiceof the LORDGodwalkingin the gardenin the coolof the day: and Adamand his wifehid themselvesfrom the presenceof the LORDGodamongstthe treesof the garden. And the LORDGodcalleduntoAdam, and saidunto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heardthy voicein the garden, and I was afraid, becauseI was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Whotoldthee thatthou wast naked? Hast thou eatenofthe tree, whereofI commandedthee that thou shouldest noteat? And the mansaid, The womanwhomthou gavest to be withme, shegaveme ofthe tree, and I did eat. And the LORDGodsaidunto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the womansaid, The serpentbeguiledme, and I did eat. And the LORDGodsaiduntothe serpent, Becausethou hast donethis, thou art cursedabove allcattle, and above everybeastof the field; uponthy bellyshalt thou go, and dustshalt thou eatallthe daysof thy life: And I will putenmitybetweenthee and the woman, and betweenthy seedand her seed; itshall bruisethy head, and thoushalt bruisehis heel. Untothe womanhe said, I will greatlymultiplythy sorrowand thy conception; in sorrowthou shalt bring forthchildren; and thy desire shall be tothy husband, and heshall ruleover thee. And unto Adamhe said, Becausethou hast hearkenedunto the voiceof thy wife, and hast eatenofthe tree, of whichI commandedthee, saying, Thou shalt noteatofit: cursed is the groundfor thy sake; in sorrowshalt thou eat of it allthe daysof thy life; Thornsalso and thistlesshall it bring forthto thee; and thou shalt eatthe herbof the field; In the sweatof thy faceshalt thou eatbread, tillthou returnuntothe ground; forout ofit wast thou taken: fordustthou art , and untodustshalt thou return. And Adamcalledhis wife's nameEve; becauseshewasthe motherof allliving. Unto Adamalso and to his wifedid the LORDGodmakecoatsof skins, and clothedthem. And the LORDGodsaid, Behold, the manis becomeas oneofus, to knowgoodand evil: and now, lesthe put forthhis hand, and takealsoof the treeof life, and eat, and liveforever: Therefore the LORDGodsent him forthfrom the gardenof Eden, to tillthe groundfrom whencehe was taken. So he drove outthe man; and he placedat the eastof the gardenof EdenCherubims, and a flamingswordwhich turned every way, to keepthe wayof the treeof life.
