And AchishsaidtoDavid, Thereforewill I makethee keeperof mine headforever. Now Samuelwas dead, and allIsraelhad lamentedhim, and buriedhim in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saulhad put awaythose that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land. And the Philistinesgathered themselves together, and cameand pitchedin Shunem: and Saulgathered all Israel together, and they pitchedin Gilboa. And when Saulsawthe hostof the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heartgreatlytrembled. And when Saulinquiredof the LORD, the LORDansweredhim not, neitherby dreams, norby Urim, norby prophets. Then saidSaulunto his servants, Seekme a womanthat hatha familiar spirit, that I may gotoher, and inquireof her. And his servantssaidtohim, Behold, there is a womanthat hatha familiar spiritat Endor. And Sauldisguised himself, and put onotherraiment, and hewent, and twomenwithhim, and they cametothe womanby night: and he said, I pray thee, divineunto me by the familiar spirit, and bringme him up, whomI shall nameuntothee. And the womansaiduntohim, Behold, thouknowestwhatSaulhath done, howhe hath cut offthose that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out ofthe land: whereforethen layest thoua snarefor my life, to cause me to die? And Saulsworeto her by the LORD, saying, As the LORDliveth, there shall nopunishmenthappento thee for thisthing. Then saidthe woman, Whomshall I bring upunto thee? And he said, Bring me upSamuel. And when the womansawSamuel, she criedwith a loudvoice: and the womanspoketoSaul, saying, Whyhast thou deceivedme? for thou art Saul. And the kingsaidunto her, Be notafraid: forwhatsawestthou? And the womansaiduntoSaul, I sawgodsascendingout ofthe earth. And he saidunto her, Whatform is he of? And she said, An oldmancometh up; and he is coveredwith a mantle. And Saulperceivedthatit was Samuel, and hestoopedwith his faceto the ground, and bowed himself. And SamuelsaidtoSaul, Whyhast thou disquietedme, to bring me up? And Saulanswered, I am soredistressed; for the Philistinesmake waragainst me, and Godis departedfromme, and answerethme nomore, neitherbyprophets, norby dreams: therefore I have calledthee, that thou mayest make knownunto me whatI shall do. Then saidSamuel, Whereforethen dost thou askof me, seeing the LORDis departedfromthee, and is becomethine enemy? And the LORDhath doneto him, ashe spokebyme: for the LORDhath rentthe kingdomout of thine hand, and givenit to thy neighbor, even to David: Becausethou obeyedstnotthe voiceof the LORD, norexecutedsthis fiercewrathupon Amalek, thereforehath the LORDdonethisthingunto thee thisday. Moreoverthe LORDwill also deliverIsraelwiththee into the handof the Philistines: and tomorrow shalt thouand thy sons be withme: the LORDalsoshall deliverthe hostof Israelinto the handof the Philistines. Then Saulfellstraightwayall alongon the earth, and was soreafraid, because of the wordsof Samuel: andthere wasnostrengthin him; forhe had eatennobreadallthe day, nor allthe night. And the womancameuntoSaul, and sawthathe was soretroubled, and saiduntohim, Behold, thine handmaidhath obeyedthy voice, and I have putmy lifein my hand, and have hearkenedunto thy wordswhichthou spokestuntome. Nowtherefore, I pray thee, hearkenthoualsounto the voiceof thine handmaid, and let me seta morselof breadbeforethee; and eat, that thou mayest havestrength, whenthou goeston thy way. But he refused, and said, I will noteat. But his servants, together withthe woman, compelledhim; and he hearkenedunto their voice. So he arosefrom the earth, and satuponthe bed. And the womanhad a fatcalfin the house; and she hasted, and killedit, and tookflour, and kneaded it , and did bakeunleavened breadthereof: And she brought it beforeSaul, and beforehis servants; and they did eat.
