Now it came to pass, when Adoni-zedek kingof Jerusalemhad heardhowJoshuahad takenAi, and had utterly destroyedit; ashe had doneto Jerichoand her king, sohe had doneto Aiand her king; and howthe inhabitantsof Gibeonhad made peacewithIsrael, and wereamongthem; That they fearedgreatly, becauseGibeon was a greatcity, as oneof the royalcities, and becauseit was greaterthanAi, and allthe menthereof were mighty. Wherefore Adoni-zedek kingof JerusalemsentuntoHohamkingof Hebron, and untoPiramkingof Jarmuth, and untoJaphiakingof Lachish, and untoDebirkingof Eglon, saying, Come upuntome, and helpme, that we may smiteGibeon: forit hath made peacewithJoshuaand withthe childrenof Israel. Therefore the fivekingsof the Amorites, the kingof Jerusalem, the kingof Hebron, the kingof Jarmuth, the kingof Lachish, the kingof Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, theyand alltheir hosts, and encampedbeforeGibeon, and made waragainstit. And the menof GibeonsentuntoJoshuatothe campto Gilgal, saying, Slacknotthy handfrom thy servants; come uptous quickly, and saveus, and helpus: forallthe kingsof the Amoritesthat dwellin the mountainsare gathered togetheragainstus. So JoshuaascendedfromGilgal, he, and allthe peopleof warwithhim, and allthe mighty menof valor. And the LORDsaiduntoJoshua, Fearthem not: forI have deliveredthem into thine hand; there shall nota manofthem standbeforethee. Joshuatherefore cameuntothem suddenly, and went upfromGilgalallnight. And the LORDdiscomfitedthem beforeIsrael, and slewthem with a greatslaughterat Gibeon, and chasedthem along the waythat goeth upto Beth-horon, and smotethem toAzekah, and untoMakkedah. And it came to pass, as they fledfrom beforeIsrael, and were in the going downto Beth-horon, that the LORDcast downgreatstonesfromheavenuponthem untoAzekah, and they died: they were morewhichdiedwith hailstonesthan they whomthe childrenof Israelslewwith the sword. ThenspokeJoshuato the LORDin the daywhen the LORDdelivered upthe Amoritesbeforethe childrenof Israel, and he saidin the sightof Israel, Sun, stand thou stillupon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valleyof Ajalon. And the sunstood still, and the moonstayed, untilthe peoplehad avengedthemselves upon their enemies. Is notthiswritteninthe bookof Jasher? So the sunstoodstill in the midstof heaven, and hastednotto go downabout a wholeday. And there wasnodaylike thatbeforeit or afterit, that the LORDhearkenedunto the voiceof a man: forthe LORDfoughtfor Israel. And Joshuareturned, and allIsraelwithhim, untothe campto Gilgal. But thesefivekingsfled, and hid themselvesin a caveat Makkedah. And it was toldJoshua, saying, The fivekingsare foundhidin a caveat Makkedah. And Joshuasaid, Rollgreatstonesuponthe mouthof the cave, and setmenbyit for to keepthem: And stayyenot, but pursueafteryour enemies, and smite the hindmostof them; sufferthem notto enterintotheir cities: forthe LORDyour Godhath deliveredthem into your hand. And it came to pass, when Joshuaand the childrenof Israelhad made an endof slayingthem with a verygreatslaughter, tillthey were consumed, that the rest which remainedofthem enteredintofencedcities. And allthe peoplereturnedtothe camptoJoshuaat Makkedahin peace: nonemovedhis tongueagainst anyof the childrenof Israel. Then saidJoshua, Openthe mouthof the cave, and bring outthosefivekingsuntome out ofthe cave. And they didso, and brought forththosefivekingsuntohim out ofthe cave, the kingof Jerusalem, the kingof Hebron, the kingof Jarmuth, the kingof Lachish, and the kingof Eglon. And it came to pass, when they brought outthosekingsuntoJoshua, that Joshuacalledforallthe menof Israel, and saiduntothe captainsof the menof warwhich wentwithhim, Come near, putyour feetuponthe necksof thesekings. And they came near, and puttheir feetuponthe necksof them. And Joshuasaiduntothem, Fearnot, norbe dismayed, be strongand of good courage: forthusshall the LORDdoto allyour enemiesagainst whomyefight. And afterwardJoshuasmotethem, and slewthem, and hangedthem onfivetrees: and they werehanginguponthe treesuntilthe evening. And it came to passat the timeof the going downof the sun, that Joshuacommanded, and they took them downoff the trees, and castthem intothe cavewhereinthey had been hid, and laidgreatstonesinthe cave's mouth, which remain untilthisveryday. And thatdayJoshuatookMakkedah, and smoteit with the edgeof the sword, and the kingthereof he utterly destroyedthem, and allthe soulsthat were therein; he letnoneremain: and he didto the kingof Makkedahashe didunto the kingof Jericho. Then Joshuapassedfrom Makkedah, and allIsraelwithhim, unto Libnah, and foughtagainstLibnah: And the LORDdeliveredit also, and the kingthereof, into the handof Israel; and he smoteit with the edgeof the sword, and allthe soulsthat were therein; he letnoneremainin it; but didunto the kingthereof ashe didunto the kingof Jericho. And Joshuapassedfrom Libnah, and allIsraelwithhim, unto Lachish, and encampedagainstit, and foughtagainst it: And the LORDdeliveredLachishinto the handof Israel, which tookit on the secondday, and smoteit with the edgeof the sword, and allthe soulsthat were therein, according to allthathe had doneto Libnah. ThenHoramkingof Gezercame upto helpLachish; and Joshuasmotehim and his people, untilhe had lefthim noneremaining. And from LachishJoshuapassedunto Eglon, and allIsraelwithhim; and they encampedagainstit, and foughtagainstit: And they tookit on thatday, and smoteit with the edgeof the sword, and allthe soulsthat were therein he utterly destroyedthatday, according to allthathe had doneto Lachish. And Joshuawent upfrom Eglon, and allIsraelwithhim, unto Hebron; and they foughtagainstit: And they tookit, and smoteit with the edgeof the sword, and the kingthereof, and allthe citiesthereof, and allthe soulsthat were therein; he leftnoneremaining, according to allthathe had doneto Eglon; but destroyedit utterly, and allthe soulsthat were therein. And Joshuareturned, and allIsraelwithhim, to Debir; and foughtagainstit: And he tookit, and the kingthereof, and allthe citiesthereof; and they smotethem with the edgeof the sword, and utterly destroyedallthe soulsthat were therein; he leftnoneremaining: ashe had doneto Hebron, sohe didto Debir, and to the kingthereof; ashe had donealso to Libnah, and to her king. So Joshuasmoteallthe countryof the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and alltheir kings: he leftnoneremaining, but utterly destroyedallthat breathed, asthe LORDGodof Israelcommanded. And Joshuasmotethem from Kadesh-barnea even untoGaza, and allthe countryof Goshen, even untoGibeon. And allthesekingsand their landdid Joshuatakeat onetime, becausethe LORDGodof Israelfoughtfor Israel. And Joshuareturned, and allIsraelwithhim, untothe campto Gilgal.
