And it was toldthe houseof David, saying, Syriais confederatewithEphraim. And his heartwas moved, and the heartof his people, as the treesof the woodare movedwiththe wind. Then saidthe LORDuntoIsaiah, Go forthnowto meetAhaz, thou, and Shear-jashub thy son, atthe endof the conduitof the upperpoolinthe highwayof the fuller's field; And sayuntohim, Take heed, and be quiet; fearnot, neitherbe faintheartedfor the twotailsof thesesmokingfirebrands, for the fierceangerof Rezinwith Syria, and of the sonof Remaliah. BecauseSyria, Ephraim, and the sonof Remaliah, have taken evilcounselagainstthee, saying, Let us go upagainst Judah, and vexit, and let us make a breachtherein forus, and set a kingin the midstof it, even the sonof Tabeal: Thussaiththe LordGOD, It shall notstand, neithershall it come to pass. Forthe headof Syria is Damascus, and the headof Damascus is Rezin; and withinthreescoreand fiveyearsshall Ephraimbe broken, that it be not a people. And the headof Ephraim is Samaria, and the headof Samaria is Remaliah's son. Ifye will notbelieve, surelyye shall notbe established. Moreover the LORDspokeagainuntoAhaz, saying, Askthee a signofthe LORDthy God; askit either in the depth, orin the heightabove. But Ahazsaid, I will notask, neitherwill I temptthe LORD. And he said, Hearye now, O houseof David; Is it a small thingforyou to wearymen, butwill ye wearymy Godalso? Thereforethe Lordhimselfshall giveyou a sign; Behold, a virginshall conceive, and beara son, and shall callhis nameImmanuel. Butterand honeyshall he eat, that he may knowto refusethe evil, and choosethe good. Forbeforethe childshall knowto refusethe evil, and choosethe good, the landthatthouabhorrestshall be forsakenof bothher kings. The LORDshall bringuponthee, and uponthy people, and uponthy father's house, daysthathave notcome, from the daythat EphraimdepartedfromJudah; even the kingof Assyria. And it shall come to passin thatday, that the LORDshall hissfor the flythat is in the uttermost partof the riversof Egypt, and for the beethat is in the landof Assyria. And they shall come, and shall restallof them in the desolatevalleys, and in the holesof the rocks, and upon allthorns, and upon allbushes. In the samedayshall the Lordshavewith a razorthat is hired, namely , by them beyondthe river, by the kingof Assyria, the head, and the hairof the feet: and it shall alsoconsumethe beard. And it shall come to passin thatday, that a manshall nourisha youngcow, and twosheep; And it shall come to pass, for the abundanceof milk that they shall givehe shall eatbutter: forbutterand honeyshall every oneeatthat is leftin the land. And it shall come to passin thatday, that everyplaceshall be, wherethere werea thousandvinesat a thousandsilverlings, it shall even befor briersand thorns. With arrowsand with bowsshall men comethither; becauseallthe landshall becomebriersand thorns. And on allhillsthatshall be diggedwith the mattock, there shall notcomethitherthe fearof briersand thorns: but it shall befor the sending forthof oxen, and for the treadingof lesser cattle.
