The visionof Isaiahthe sonof Amoz, whichhe sawconcerningJudahand Jerusalemin the daysof Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kingsof Judah. Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: forthe LORDhath spoken, I have nourishedand brought upchildren, and theyhave rebelledagainst me. The oxknowethhis owner, and the asshis master's crib: but Israeldoth notknow, my peopledoth notconsider. Ahsinfulnation, a peopleladenwith iniquity, a seedof evildoers, childrenthat are corrupters: they have forsakenthe LORD, they have provokedthe Holy Oneof Israelunto anger, they are gone awaybackward. Whyshould ye be strickenany more? ye will revoltmore and more: the wholeheadis sick, and the wholeheartfaint. From the soleof the footeven untothe head there is nosoundnessin it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrefyingsores: they have notbeen closed, neitherbound up, neithermollifiedwith ointment. Your country is desolate, your cities are burnedwith fire: your land, strangersdevourit in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrownby strangers. And the daughterof Zionis leftas a cottagein a vineyard, as a lodgein a garden of cucumbers, as a besiegedcity. Exceptthe LORDof hostshad leftunto us a very smallremnant, we should have beenas Sodom, and we should have been likeunto Gomorrah. Hearthe wordof the LORD, ye rulersof Sodom; give earunto the lawof our God, ye peopleof Gomorrah. To whatpurpose is the multitudeof your sacrificesunto me? saiththe LORD: I am fullof the burnt offeringsof rams, and the fatof fed beasts; and I delightnotin the bloodof bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats. Whenye cometo appearbeforeme, whohath requiredthisat your hand, to treadmy courts? Bringnomorevainoblations; incenseis an abominationunto me; the new moonsand sabbaths, the callingof assemblies, I cannotaway with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting. Your new moonsand your appointed feastsmy soulhateth: they area troubleunto me; I am wearyto bear them . And when ye spread forthyour hands, I will hidemine eyesfromyou: yea, whenye make manyprayers, I will nothear: your handsare fullof blood. Washyou, make you clean; put awaythe evilof your doingsfrom beforemine eyes; ceaseto do evil; Learnto do well; seekjudgment, relievethe oppressed, judgethe fatherless, pleadfor the widow. Comenow, and let us reason together, saiththe LORD: thoughyour sinsbeas scarlet, they shall be as whiteas snow; thoughthey be redlike crimson, they shall beas wool. Ifye be willingand obedient, ye shall eatthe goodof the land: But ifye refuseand rebel, ye shall be devouredwith the sword: forthe mouthof the LORDhath spoken it . Howis the faithfulcitybecomea harlot! it was fullof judgment; righteousnesslodgedin it; but nowmurderers. Thy silveris becomedross, thy winemixedwith water: Thy princes are rebellious, and companionsof thieves: every onelovethgifts, and followeth afterrewards: they judgenotthe fatherless, neitherdoth the causeof the widowcomeuntothem. Thereforesaiththe Lord, the LORDof hosts, the mighty Oneof Israel, Ah, I will easeme of mine adversaries, and avengeme of mine enemies: And I will turnmy handuponthee, and purelypurge awaythy dross, and take awayallthy tin: And I will restorethy judgesas at the first, and thy counselorsas at the beginning: afterwardthou shalt be called, The cityof righteousness, the faithfulcity. Zionshall be redeemedwith judgment, and her convertswith righteousness. And the destructionof the transgressorsand of the sinners shall be together, and they that forsakethe LORDshall be consumed. Forthey shall be ashamedof the oakswhichye have desired, and ye shall be confoundedfor the gardensthatye have chosen. Forye shall beas an oakwhose leaffadeth, and as a gardenthathath nowater. And the strongshall beas tow, and the makerof it as a spark, and they shall bothburntogether, and noneshall quench them .
