And the letterswere sentbypostsintoallthe king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, allJews, both youngandold, little childrenand women, in oneday, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfthmonth, whichis the monthAdar, and to take the spoilof them for a prey. The copyof the writingfor a commandmentto be givenin everyprovincewas publishedunto allpeople, that they should bereadyagainst thatday. The postswent out, being hastenedby the king's commandment, and the decreewas givenin Shushanthe palace. And the kingand Hamansat downto drink; but the cityShushanwas perplexed.
