And it came to passafterthesethings, that the butlerof the kingof Egyptand his bakerhad offendedtheir lordthe kingof Egypt. And Pharaohwas wrothagainsttwo of his officers, againstthe chiefof the butlers, and againstthe chiefof the bakers. And he putthem in wardin the houseof the captainof the guard, intothe prison, the placewhereJoseph was bound. And the captainof the guardchargedJosephwiththem, and he servedthem: and they continueda seasonin ward. And they dreameda dreambothof them, each manhis dreamin onenight, each manaccording to the interpretationof his dream, the butlerand the bakerof the kingof Egypt, which were boundin the prison. And Josephcame inuntothem in the morning, and looked uponthem, and, behold, they were sad. And he askedPharaoh's officersthat were withhim in the wardof his lord's house, saying, Whereforelookye so sadlytoday? And they saiduntohim, We have dreameda dream, and there is nointerpreterof it. And Josephsaiduntothem, Do notinterpretations belong to God? tellme them , I pray you. And the chiefbutlertoldhis dreamto Joseph, and saidto him, In my dream, behold, a vine was beforeme; And in the vine were threebranches: and it was as though it budded, and herblossomsshot forth; and the clustersthereof brought forthripe grapes: And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand: and I tookthe grapes, and pressedthem intoPharaoh's cup, and I gavethe cupintoPharaoh's hand. And Josephsaidunto him, This is the interpretationof it: The threebranches are threedays: Yetwithin threedaysshall Pharaohlift upthine head, and restorethee untothy place: and thou shalt deliverPharaoh's cupinto his hand, after the formermannerwhenthou wasthis butler. Butthink onme whenit shall be wellwith thee, and showkindness, I pray thee, untome, and make mentionof me untoPharaoh, and bring me outofthishouse: Forindeed I was stolen awayout of the landof the Hebrews: and herealsohave I donenothingthatthey should putme into the dungeon. When the chiefbakersawthatthe interpretationwas good, he saiduntoJoseph, Ialso was in my dream, and, behold, I had threewhitebasketsonmy head: And in the uppermostbasket there was of all mannerof bakedmeatsfor Pharaoh; and the birdsdid eatthem out ofthe basketuponmy head. And Josephansweredand said, This is the interpretationthereof: The threebaskets are threedays: Yetwithin threedaysshall Pharaohlift upthy headfrom offthee, and shall hangthee ona tree; and the birdsshall eatthy fleshfrom offthee. And it came to passthe thirdday, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he madea feastunto allhis servants: and he lifted upthe headof the chiefbutlerand of the chiefbakeramonghis servants. And he restoredthe chiefbutleruntohis butlershipagain; and he gavethe cupintoPharaoh's hand: But he hangedthe chiefbaker: asJosephhad interpretedto them.
