Forthistheywillinglyare ignorant of, thatby thewordof Godthe heavenswereof old, andthe earthstandingout ofthe waterandinthe water: Wherebytheworldthat thenwas, being overflowedwith water, perished. Buttheheavensandtheearth, which are now, by thesamewordarekept in store, reservedunto fireagainstthe dayof judgmentandperditionof ungodlymen. But, beloved, be not ignorantof thisone thing, thatoneday is withthe Lordasa thousandyears, anda thousandyearsasoneday. TheLordis not slackconcerning his promise, assome mencountslackness; butis longsufferingtous-ward, notwillingthat anyshould perish, butthat allshould cometorepentance. Butthedayof the Lordwill comeasa thiefinthe night; inthe whichtheheavensshall pass awaywith a great noise, andthe elementsshall meltwith fervent heat, the earthalsoandtheworksthat are thereinshall be burned up. Seeing then that allthese thingsshall be dissolved, what manner of persons oughtyeto bein all holyconversationandgodliness, Looking forandhastingunto thecomingof thedayof God, whereinthe heavensbeing on fireshall be dissolved, andthe elementsshall meltwith fervent heat? Neverthelesswe, accordingto hispromise, look fornewheavensanda newearth, whereindwellethrighteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look forsuch things, be diligentthat ye may be foundof himinpeace, without spot, andblameless. Yetherefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, bewarelestye also, being led away withtheerrorof thewicked, fall fromyour ownsteadfastness.
