Then we turned, and took our journeyinto the wildernessby the wayof the Redsea, asthe LORDspokeuntome: and we compassedmountSeirmanydays. And the LORDspokeuntome, saying, Ye have compassedthismountainlong enough: turnyou northward. And commandthou the people, saying, Ye are to pass throughthe coastof your brethrenthe childrenof Esau, which dwellin Seir; and they shall be afraidofyou: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore: Meddlenotwith them; forI will notgiveyou of their land, no, not so muchas a foot breadth; becauseI have givenmountSeirunto Esau for a possession. Ye shall buymeatofthem for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall alsobuywaterofthem for money, that ye may drink. Forthe LORDthy Godhath blessedthee in allthe worksof thy hand: he knoweththy walking throughthisgreatwilderness: thesefortyyearsthe LORDthy God hath been withthee; thou hast lackednothing. And when we passed byfromour brethrenthe childrenof Esau, which dweltin Seir, through the wayof the plainfrom Elath, and from Ezion-gaber, we turnedand passedby the wayof the wildernessof Moab. And the LORDsaiduntome, Distressnotthe Moabites, neithercontendwith them in battle: forI will notgivethee of their land for a possession; becauseI have givenArunto the childrenof Lot for a possession. The Emimsdwelttherein in times past, a peoplegreat, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; Whichalsowere accountedgiants, as the Anakims; but the Moabitescallthem Emims. The Horimsalso dweltin Seirformerly; but the childrenof Esausucceededthem, when they had destroyedthem from beforethem, and dweltin their stead; asIsraeldidunto the landof his possession, whichthe LORDgaveunto them. Nowrise up, said I , and get you overthe brookZered. And we went overthe brookZered. And the spacein whichwe camefrom Kadesh-barnea, untilwe were come overthe brookZered, was thirtyand eightyears; untilallthe generationof the menof warwere wastedout from amongthe host, asthe LORDsworeunto them. For indeedthe handof the LORDwasagainst them, to destroythem from amongthe host, untilthey were consumed. So it came to pass, whenallthe menof warwere consumedand deadfrom amongthe people, That the LORDspokeuntome, saying, Thouart to pass overthrough Arthe coastof Moab, this day: And when thou comest nighover againstthe childrenof Ammon, distressthem not, normeddlewith them: forI will notgivethee of the landof the childrenof Ammon any possession; becauseI have givenit unto the childrenof Lot for a possession. ( Thatalsowas accounteda landof giants: giantsdwelttherein in old time; and the Ammonitescallthem Zamzummims; A peoplegreat, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; but the LORDdestroyedthem beforethem; and they succeededthem, and dweltin their stead: Ashe didto the childrenof Esau, which dweltin Seir, whenhe destroyedthe Horimsfrom beforethem; and they succeededthem, and dweltin their steadeven untothisday: And the Avimswhich dweltin Hazerim, even untoAzzah, the Caphtorims, which came forthout of Caphtor, destroyedthem, and dweltin their stead.) Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass overthe riverArnon: behold, I have giveninto thine handSihonthe Amorite, kingof Heshbon, and his land: beginto possess it , and contendwith him in battle. Thisdaywill I beginto putthe dreadof thee and the fearof thee uponthe nations that are underthe wholeheaven, whoshall hearreportof thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguishbecauseof thee. And I sentmessengersout of the wildernessof KedemothuntoSihonkingof Heshbonwith wordsof peace, saying, Let me passthrough thy land: I will goalong by the highway, I will neitherturnunto the right handnor to the left. Thou shalt sellme meatfor money, that I may eat; and giveme waterfor money, that I may drink: onlyI will pass throughon my feet; ( Asthe childrenof Esauwhich dwellin Seir, and the Moabiteswhich dwellin Ar, didunto me;) untilI shall pass overJordanintothe landwhichthe LORDour Godgivethus. But Sihonkingof Heshbonwouldnotlet us passby him: forthe LORDthy Godhardenedhis spirit, and made his heart obstinate, thathe might deliverhim into thy hand, as appeareth thisday. And the LORDsaiduntome, Behold, I have begunto giveSihonand his landbeforethee: beginto possess, that thou mayest inherithis land. Then Sihoncame outagainstus, heand allhis people, to fightat Jahaz. And the LORDour Goddeliveredhim beforeus; and we smotehim, and his sons, and allhis people. And we tookallhis citiesat thattime, and utterly destroyedthe men, and the women, and the little ones, of everycity, we leftnoneto remain: Onlythe cattlewe took for a preyunto ourselves, and the spoilof the citieswhichwe took. FromAroer, which is bythe brinkof the riverof Arnon, and from the citythat is by the river, even untoGilead, there wasnotone citytoo strongforus: the LORDour Goddeliveredalluntous: Onlyuntothe landof the childrenof Ammonthou camestnot, nor unto anyplaceof the riverJabbok, nor unto the citiesin the mountains, nor unto whatsoeverthe LORDour Godforbadeus.
