Paul, a servantof JesusChrist, called to be an apostle, separateduntothe gospelof God, ( Whichhe had promised aforebyhisprophetsinthe HolyScriptures,) ConcerninghisSonJesusChristourLord, whichwas madeofthe seedof Davidaccordingto the flesh; And declared to be the Sonof Godwithpower, accordingto the spiritof holiness, bythe resurrectionfrom the dead: Bywhomwe have receivedgraceandapostleship, forobedienceto the faithamongallnations, forhisname; Amongwhomareyealsothe calledof JesusChrist: To allthat beinRome, belovedof God, called to be saints: Graceto youandpeacefromGodourFather, andthe LordJesusChrist. First, IthankmyGodthroughJesusChristforyouall, thatyourfaithis spoken ofthroughout thewholeworld. ForGodismywitness, whomI servewithmyspiritinthegospelof hisSon, thatwithout ceasingI makementionof youalwaysinmyprayers; Making request, if by any meansnowat lengthI might have a prosperous journeybythewillof Godto comeuntoyou. ForI longto seeyou, thatI may impartunto yousomespiritualgift, to the end yemay be established; Thatis, that I may be comforted togetherwithyoubythemutualfaithbothof youandme. NowI wouldnothave you ignorant, brethren, thatoftentimesI purposedto comeuntoyou, ( butwas lethitherto,) thatI might havesomefruitamongyoualso, evenasamongotherGentiles. I amdebtorbothto the Greeks, andto the Barbarians; bothto the wise, andto the unwise. So, as much as in me is, I am readyto preach the gospelto youthatare atRomealso. ForI am notashamedof thegospelof Christ: forit isthe powerof Goduntosalvationto every onethat believeth; to the Jewfirst, andalsoto the Greek. Forthereinis the righteousnessof Godrevealedfromfaithtofaith: asit is written. Thejustshall livebyfaith. Forthe wrathof Godis revealedfromheavenagainstallungodlinessandunrighteousnessof men, who holdthetruthinunrighteousness; Becausethat which may be knownof Godismanifestinthem; forGodhath showed it unto them. Fortheinvisible thingsof himfromthe creationof the worldare clearly seen, being understoodby thethings that aremade, evenhiseternalpowerandGodhead; so that theyarewithout excuse: Because that, when they knewGod, they glorified him notasGod, neitherwere thankful; butbecame vainintheirimaginations, andtheirfoolishheartwas darkened. Professingthemselves to bewise, they became fools, Andchangedthegloryof theincorruptibleGodintoan imagemade like tocorruptibleman, andto birds, andfourfooted beasts, andcreeping things. WhereforeGodalsogave them uptouncleannessthroughthelustsof their ownhearts, to dishonortheir ownbodiesbetweenthemselves: Whochangedthetruthof Godintoa lie, andworshipedandservedthecreaturemore thantheCreator, whoisblessedforever. Amen. For this causeGodgave them upuntovileaffections: foreventheirwomendid changethenaturaluseintothatwhich is againstnature: Andlikewisealsothemen, leavingthenaturaluseof thewoman, burnedintheirlustone toward another; menwithmenworkingthat which is unseemly, andreceivinginthemselvesthat recompenseof theirerrorwhichwas meet. Andeven asthey did notliketo retainGodin their knowledge, Godgave them overtoa reprobatemind, to dothose things which are not convenient; Being filledwith allunrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; fullof envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventorsof evil things, disobedientto parents, Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Whoknowingthejudgmentof God, thatthey which commitsuch thingsareworthyof death, notonlydothe same, buthave pleasurein them that dothem.
