Thenwas Jesusled upofthespiritintothewildernessto be temptedofthedevil. Andwhen he had fastedfortydaysandfortynights, he was afterward hungry. Andwhen thetemptercameto him, he said, Ifthou bethe Son ofGod, commandthatthesestonesbe madebread. Butheansweredand said, It is written, Man shall notlivebybreadalone, butbyeveryword that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Thenthedeviltaketh him upintotheholycity, andsettethhimona pinnacleof thetemple, Andsaithunto him, Ifthou bethe Sonof God, castthyselfdown: forit is written, He shall give his angels chargeconcerningthee: andin their handsthey shall bear thee up, lest at any timethou dashthyfootagainsta stone. Jesussaidunto him, It is writtenagain, Thou shalt nottempt the LordthyGod. Again, thedeviltaketh him upintoan exceedinghighmountain, andshowethhimallthekingdomsof theworld, andthegloryof them; Andsaithunto him, Allthese thingswill I givethee, ifthou wilt fall downand worshipme. ThensaithJesusunto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the LordthyGod, andhimonly shalt thou serve. Thenthedevilleavethhim, and, behold, angelscameandministeredunto him. Nowwhen Jesushad heardthatJohnwas cast into prison, he departedintoGalilee; AndleavingNazareth, he cameand dweltinCapernaum, which is upon the sea coast, inthe bordersof ZebulunandNaphtali: Thatit might be fulfilledwhichwas spokenbyIsaiahtheprophet, saying, The landof Zebulun, andthe landof Naphtali, by the wayof the sea, beyondJordan, Galileeof theGentiles; Thepeoplewhichsatindarknesssawgreatlight; andto them which satinthe regionandshadowof deathlightis sprung up. Fromthat timeJesusbeganto preach, andto say, Repent: forthekingdom of heaven is at hand. AndJesus, walkingbytheseaof Galilee, sawtwobrethren, SimoncalledPeter, andAndrewhisbrother, castinga netintothesea: forthey werefishers. Andhe saithunto them, Followme, and I will makeyoufishers of men. Andtheystraightwayleft their nets, and followedhim. Andgoing onfrom thence, he sawothertwobrethren, Jamesthe son of Zebedee, andJohnhisbrother, ina shipwithZebedeetheirfather, mendingtheirnets; andhe calledthem. Andthey immediately lefttheshipandtheirfather, andfollowedhim. AndJesuswent aboutallGalilee, teachingintheirsynagogues, andpreachingthegospelof thekingdom, andhealingall mannerof sicknessandall mannerof diseaseamongthepeople. AndhisfamewentthroughoutallSyria: andthey broughtunto himallsick peoplethat were takenwith diversdiseasesandtorments, andthose which were possessed with devils, andthose which were lunatic, andthose that had the palsy; andhe healedthem. Andthere followedhimgreatmultitudes of peoplefromGalilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from beyondJordan.
