Now these are the judgmentswhichthou shalt setbeforethem. Ifthou buya Hebrewservant, sixyearshe shall serve: and in the seventhhe shall go outfreefor nothing. Ifhe came inby himself, he shall go outby himself: ifhewere married, then his wifeshall go outwithhim. Ifhis masterhave givenhim a wife, and she have bornhim sonsordaughters; the wifeand her childrenshall beher master's, and heshall go outby himself. And ifthe servantshall plainly say, I lovemy master, my wife, and my children; I will notgo outfree: Then his mastershall bringhim untothe judges; he shall also bringhim tothe door, oruntothe door post; and his mastershall bore his ear throughwith an awl; and he shall servehim forever. And ifa mansellhis daughterto be a maidservant, she shall notgo outas the menservantsdo. Ifshe please nother master, whohath betrothedher to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sellher unto a strangenationhe shall have nopower, seeing he hath dealt deceitfullywith her. And ifhe have betrothedher unto his son, he shall dealwith her after the mannerof daughters. Ifhe takehim another wife ; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he notdiminish. And ifhe donotthesethreeunto her, then shall she go outfreewithoutmoney. He that smitetha man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death. And ifa man lie not in wait, but Goddeliver him into his hand; then I will appointthee a placewhitherhe shall flee. But ifa mancome presumptuouslyuponhis neighbor, to slayhim with guile; thou shalt takehim frommine altar, that he may die. And he that smitethhis father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death. And he that stealetha man, and sellethhim, or if he be foundin his hand, he shall surely be put to death. And he that cursethhis father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death. And ifmenstrive together, and onesmiteanotherwith a stone, orwith his fist, and he dienot, but keepeth his bed: Ifhe rise again, and walkabroaduponhis staff, then shall he that smote him be quit: onlyhe shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him to be thoroughly healed. And ifa mansmitehis servant, orhis maid, with a rod, and he dieunderhis hand; he shall be surely punished. Notwithstanding, ifhe continuea dayortwo, he shall notbe punished: forhe is his money. Ifmenstrive, and hurta womanwith child, so that her fruitdepart from her , and yet nomischieffollow: he shall be surely punished, according asthe woman's husbandwill layuponhim; and he shall payas the judges determine . And if any mischieffollow, then thou shalt givelifeforlife, Eyeforeye, toothfortooth, handforhand, footforfoot, Burningforburning, woundforwound, stripeforstripe. And ifa mansmitethe eyeof his servant, orthe eyeof his maid, that it perish; he shall let him gofreefor his eye's sake. And ifhe smite outhis manservant's tooth, orhis maidservant's tooth; he shall let him gofreefor his tooth's sake. Ifan oxgorea manora woman, that they die: then the oxshall be surely stoned, and his fleshshall notbe eaten; but the ownerof the ox shall be quit. But ifthe oxwere wont to push with his hornin time past, and it hath been testifiedto his owner, and he hath notkept him in, but that he hath killeda manora woman; the oxshall be stoned, and his owneralsoshall be put to death. Ifthere be laidonhim a sum of money, then he shall givefor the ransomof his lifewhatsoeveris laiduponhim. Whetherhe have goreda son, orhave goreda daughter, according to thisjudgmentshall it be doneunto him. Ifthe oxshall pusha manservantora maidservant; he shall giveunto their masterthirtyshekelsof silver, and the oxshall be stoned. And ifa manshall opena pit, orifa manshall diga pit, and notcoverit, and an oxoran assfalltherein; The ownerof the pitshall make it good, and givemoneyunto the ownerof them; and the dead beast shall behis. And ifone man's oxhurtanother's, that he die; then they shall sellthe liveox, and dividethe moneyof it; and the dead ox alsothey shall divide. Orif it be knownthatthe oxhath used to pushin time past, and his ownerhath notkept him in; he shall surely payoxforox; and the deadshall behis own.
