To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, the servantof the LORD, whospokeunto the LORDthe wordsof thissongin the day that the LORDdeliveredhim from the handof allhis enemies, and from the handof Saul: And he said, I will lovethee, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the hornof my salvation, and my high tower. I will callupon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be savedfrommine enemies. The sorrowsof deathcompassedme, and the floodsof ungodly menmade me afraid. The sorrowsof hellcompassed me about: the snaresof deathpreventedme. In my distressI called uponthe LORD, and crieduntomy God: he heardmy voiceout of his temple, and my crycamebeforehim, even into his ears. Then the earthshookand trembled; the foundationsalso of the hillsmovedand were shaken, becausehe was wroth. There went upa smokeout of his nostrils, and fireout of his mouthdevoured: coalswere kindledbyit. He bowedthe heavensalso, and came down: and darkness was underhis feet. And he rodeupona cherub, and did fly: yea, he did flyuponthe wingsof the wind. He madedarknesshis secret place; his pavilionround abouthim were darkwaters and thick cloudsof the skies. At the brightness that was beforehim his thick cloudspassed, hail stones and coalsof fire. The LORDalso thunderedin the heavens, and the Highestgavehis voice; hail stones and coalsof fire. Yea, he sent outhis arrows, and scatteredthem; and he shot outlightnings, and discomfitedthem. Then the channelsof waterswere seen, and the foundationsof the worldwere discoveredat thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blastof the breathof thy nostrils. He sentfrom above, he tookme, he drewme out of many waters. He deliveredme from my strongenemy, and from them which hatedme: forthey were too strongforme. They preventedme in the dayof my calamity: but the LORDwasmy stay. He brought me forthalso into a large place; he deliveredme, becausehe delightedin me. The LORDrewardedme according to my righteousness; according to the cleannessof my handshath he recompensedme. ForI have keptthe waysof the LORD, and have notwickedly departedfrom my God. Forallhis judgments were beforeme, and I did notput awayhis statutesfromme. I wasalso uprightbeforehim, and I kept myselffrom mine iniquity. Therefore hath the LORDrecompensedme according to my righteousness, according to the cleannessof my handsinhis eyesight. Withthe mercifulthou wilt show thyself merciful; withan uprightmanthou wilt show thyself upright; Withthe purethou wilt show thyself pure; and withthe frowardthou wilt show thyself froward. Forthou wiltsavethe afflictedpeople; but wilt bring downhighlooks. Forthouwilt lightmy candle: the LORDmy Godwill enlightenmy darkness. Forby thee I have run througha troop; and by my Godhave I leaped overa wall. As for God, his way is perfect: the wordof the LORDis tried: he is a bucklerto allthose that trustin him. Forwho is Godsavethe LORD? or who is a rocksaveour God? It is Godthat girdethme with strength, and makethmy wayperfect. He makethmy feetlike hinds' feet , and settethme uponmy high places. He teachethmy handsto war, so that a bowof steelis brokenby mine arms. Thou hast also givenme the shieldof thy salvation: and thy right handhath holden me up, and thy gentlenesshath made me great. Thou hast enlargedmy stepsunderme, that my feetdid notslip. I have pursuedmine enemies, and overtakenthem: neitherdid I turn againtillthey were consumed. I have woundedthem that they were notableto rise: they are fallenundermy feet. For thou hast girdedme with strengthunto the battle: thou hast subduedunderme those that rose upagainst me. Thou hast also givenme the necksof mine enemies; that I might destroythem that hateme. They cried, but there was noneto save them: even untothe LORD, but he answeredthem not. Then did I beat them smallas the dustbeforethe wind: I did cast them outas the dirtin the streets. Thou hast deliveredme from the strivingsof the people; and thou hast mademe the headof the heathen: a people whom I have notknownshall serveme. As soon as they hearof me, they shall obeyme: the strangersshall submitthemselves unto me. The strangersshall fade away, and be afraidout oftheir close places. The LORDliveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the Godof my salvationbe exalted. It is Godthat avengethme, and subdueththe peopleunderme. He deliverethme from mine enemies: yea, thou liftest me upabovethose that rise upagainst me: thou hast deliveredme from the violentman. Thereforewill I give thanksunto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praisesunto thy name. Greatdeliverancegiveth he to his king; and showethmercyto his anointed, to David, and to his seedforevermore.
