These are now the chiefof their fathers, and this is the genealogyof them that went upwithme from Babylon, in the reignof Artaxerxesthe king. Of the sonsof Phinehas; Gershom: of the sonsof Ithamar; Daniel: of the sonsof David; Hattush. Of the sonsof Shechaniah, of the sonsof Pharosh; Zechariah: and withhim were reckoned by genealogyof the malesa hundredand fifty. Of the sonsof Pahath-moab; Elihoenaithe sonof Zerahiah, and withhim two hundredmales. Of the sonsof Shechaniah; the sonof Jahaziel, and withhim threehundredmales. Of the sonsalso of Adin; Ebedthe sonof Jonathan, and withhim fiftymales. And of the sonsof Elam; Jeshaiahthe sonof Athaliah, and withhim seventymales. And of the sonsof Shephatiah; Zebadiahthe sonof Michael, and withhim fourscoremales. Of the sonsof Joab; Obadiahthe sonof Jehiel, and withhim two hundredand eighteenmales. And of the sonsof Shelomith; the sonof Josiphiah, and withhim a hundredand threescoremales. And of the sonsof Bebai; Zechariahthe sonof Bebai, and withhim twentyand eightmales. And of the sonsof Azgad; Johananthe sonof Hakkatan, and withhim a hundredand tenmales. And of the last sonsof Adonikam, whose names are these, Eliphelet, Jeiel, and Shemaiah, and withthem threescoremales. Of the sonsalso of Bigvai; Uthai, and Zabbud, and withthem seventymales. And I gathered them togethertothe riverthat runnethtoAhava; and thereabode we in tentsthreedays: and I viewedthe people, and the priests, and foundtherenoneof the sonsof Levi. Then sentI for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for Meshullam, chief men; also for Joiarib, and for Elnathan, men of understanding. And I sent them with commandmentuntoIddothe chiefat the placeCasiphia, and I toldthem whatthey should sayuntoIddo, and to his brethrenthe Nethinims, at the placeCasiphia, that they should bringunto us ministersfor the houseof our God. And by the goodhandof our Goduponus they broughtus a manof understanding, of the sonsof Mahli, the sonof Levi, the sonof Israel; and Sherebiah, with his sonsand his brethren, eighteen; And Hashabiah, and withhim Jeshaiahof the sonsof Merari, his brethrenand their sons, twenty; Also ofthe Nethinims, whomDavidand the princeshad appointedfor the serviceof the Levites, two hundredand twentyNethinims: allof them were expressedby name. Then I proclaimeda fastthere, atthe riverof Ahava, that we might afflict ourselvesbeforeour God, to seekofhim a rightwayfor us, and for our little ones, and for allour substance. ForI was ashamedto requireofthe kinga band of soldiersand horsemento helpus against the enemyin the way: becausewe had spokenunto the king, saying, The handof our God is uponallthem for goodthat seekhim; but his powerand his wrath is againstallthem that forsakehim. So we fastedand besoughtour Godforthis: and he was entreatedof us. Then I separatedtwelveof the chiefof the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and tenof their brethrenwiththem, And weighedunto them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offeringof the houseof our God, which the king, and his counselors, and his lords, and allIsrael there present, had offered: I even weigheduntotheir handsixhundredand fiftytalentsof silver, and silvervesselsa hundredtalents, and of golda hundredtalents; Also twentybasinsof gold, of a thousanddrams; and twovesselsof finecopper, preciousas gold. And I saiduntothem, Ye are holyunto the LORD; the vessels are holyalso; and the silverand the gold are a freewill offeringunto the LORDGodof your fathers. Watchye, and keep them , untilye weigh them beforethe chiefof the priestsand the Levites, and chiefof the fathersof Israel, at Jerusalem, in the chambersof the houseof the LORD. So tookthe priestsand the Levitesthe weightof the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalemunto the houseof our God. Then we departedfrom the riverof Ahavaon the twelfth day of the firstmonth, to gounto Jerusalem: and the handof our Godwasuponus, and he deliveredus from the handof the enemy, and of such as lay in waitbythe way. And we cameto Jerusalem, and abodetherethreedays. Now on the fourthdaywas the silverand the goldand the vesselsweighedin the houseof our Godbythe handof Meremoththe sonof Uriahthe priest; and withhim was Eleazarthe sonof Phinehas; and withthem was Jozabadthe sonof Jeshua, and Noadiahthe sonof Binnui, Levites; By number and by weightof every one: and allthe weightwas writtenat thattime. Also the childrenof those that had been carried away, which were comeout of the captivity, offeredburnt offeringsunto the Godof Israel, twelvebullocksforallIsrael, ninetyand sixrams, seventyand sevenlambs, twelvehe goats for a sin offering: all this was a burnt offeringunto the LORD. And they deliveredthe king's commissionsunto the king's lieutenants, and to the governorson this sidethe river: and they furtheredthe people, and the houseof God.
