And his mother's name was JehoaddanofJerusalem. And he did that which was rightin the sightof the LORD, yetnotlike Davidhis father: he didaccording to all thingsasJoashhis fatherdid. Howbeitthe high placeswere nottaken away: as yetthe peopledid sacrificeand burnt incenseon the high places. And it came to pass, as soon asthe kingdomwas confirmedin his hand, that he slewhis servantswhich had slainthe kinghis father. But the childrenof the murderershe slewnot: according unto that which is writtenin the bookof the lawof Moses, whereinthe LORDcommanded, saying, The fathersshall notbe put to deathforthe children, northe childrenbe put to deathforthe fathers; butevery manshall be put to deathfor his own sin. Thou hast indeed smittenEdom, and thine hearthath lifted thee up: glory of this , and tarryat home: for whyshouldest thou meddleto thy hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judahwiththee? But Amaziahwould nothear. Therefore Jehoashkingof Israelwent up; and heand Amaziahkingof Judahlooked one anotherin the faceat Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah. And Judahwas put to the worsebeforeIsrael; and they fledevery manto their tents. And Jehoashkingof IsraeltookAmaziahkingof Judah, the sonof Jehoashthe sonof Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and cameto Jerusalem, and broke downthe wallof Jerusalemfrom the gateof Ephraimuntothe cornergate, fourhundredcubits. And he tookallthe goldand silver, and allthe vesselsthat were foundin the houseof the LORD, and in the treasuresof the king's house, and hostages, and returnedto Samaria. Now the restof the actsof Jehoashwhichhe did, and his might, and howhe foughtwithAmaziahkingof Judah, are theynotwritteninthe bookof the chroniclesof the kingsof Israel? And Jehoashsleptwithhis fathers, and was buriedin Samariawiththe kingsof Israel; and Jeroboamhis sonreignedin his stead. And Amaziahthe sonof Joashkingof Judahlivedafterthe deathof Jehoashsonof Jehoahazkingof Israelfifteenyears. Now they madea conspiracyagainsthim in Jerusalem: and he fledto Lachish; but they sentafterhim to Lachish, and slewhim there. And they broughthim onhorses: and he was buriedat Jerusalemwithhis fathersin the cityof David. And allthe peopleof JudahtookAzariah, which was sixteenyearsold, and made him kinginstead ofhis fatherAmaziah. HebuiltElath, and restoredit to Judah, after thatthe kingsleptwithhis fathers. In the fifteenthyearof Amaziahthe sonof Joashkingof JudahJeroboamthe sonof Joashkingof Israelbegan to reignin Samaria, and reigned fortyand oneyears. And he did that which was evilin the sightof the LORD: he departednotfrom allthe sinsof Jeroboamthe sonof Nebat, whomade Israelto sin. Herestoredthe coastof Israelfrom the enteringof Hamathuntothe seaof the plain, according to the wordof the LORDGodof Israel, whichhe spokeby the handof his servantJonah, the sonof Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gath-hepher. Forthe LORDsawthe afflictionof Israel, that it was verybitter: for there was not anyshut up, nor anyleft, norany helperfor Israel. And the LORDsaidnotthat he would blot outthe nameof Israelfrom underheaven: but he savedthem by the handof Jeroboamthe sonof Joash. And Jeroboamsleptwithhis fathers, even withthe kingsof Israel; and Zachariahhis sonreignedin his stead.
