Let us thereforefear, lest, a promisebeing left us of enteringintohisrest, anyofyoushould seemto come shortof it. Forunto uswas the gospel preached, as well asunto them: butthewordpreacheddid notprofitthem, notbeing mixed withfaithin them that heard it. Forwe which have believeddo enterintorest, ashe said, AsI have sworninmywrath, ifthey shall enterintomyrest: althoughtheworkswere finishedfromthe foundationof the world. Forhe spakein a certain placeoftheseventh day on this wise, AndGoddid resttheseventhdayfromallhisworks. Andinthis place again, Ifthey shall enterintomyrest. Seeingthereforeit remaineththat somemust entertherein, andthey to whom it was first preachedentered not inbecauseof unbelief: Again, he limitetha certainday, sayinginDavid, Today, afterso longa time; asit is said, Todayifye will hearhisvoice, hardennotyourhearts. ForifJoshuahad given them rest, then would he notafterwardhave spokenofanotherday. There remaineththereforea restto thepeopleof God. Forhe that is enteredintohisrest, healsohath ceasedfromhis ownworks, asGod did fromhis. Let us laborthereforeto enterintothatrest, lestany manfallafterthesameexampleof unbelief. Forthewordof God is quick, andpowerful, andsharperthananytwo-edged sword, piercingeventothe dividing asunderofsoulandspirit, andof the jointsandmarrow, and is a discernerof the thoughtsandintentsof the heart. Neitheristhere any creaturethat is not manifestin his sight: butall things are nakedandopenedunto theeyesof himwithwhomwe have to do. Seeing thenthat we havea greathigh priest, that is passed intotheheavens, JesustheSonof God, let us hold fast our profession. Forwe havenota high priestwhich cannotbe touched with the feeling ofourinfirmities; butwas inall pointstemptedlike as we are, yet withoutsin. Let us thereforecomeboldlyunto thethroneof grace, thatwe may obtainmercy, andfindgraceto help in time of need.
