Ifthere bea controversybetweenmen, and they comeuntojudgment, that the judges may judgethem; then they shall justifythe righteous, and condemnthe wicked. And it shall be, ifthe wickedman be worthy to be beaten, that the judgeshall cause him to lie down, and to be beatenbefore his face, according tohis fault, by a certain number. Fortystripes he may givehim, and notexceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beathim abovethesewith manystripes, then thy brothershould seem vileuntothee. Thou shalt notmuzzlethe oxwhen he treadeth out the corn . Ifbrethrendwelltogether, and oneofthem die, and have nochild, the wifeof the deadshall notmarrywithoutunto a stranger: her husband's brothershall go inuntoher, and takeher to him to wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brotherunto her. And it shall be, that the firstbornwhichshe bearethshall succeedinthe nameof his brother which is dead, that his namebe notput outof Israel. And ifthe manlikenotto takehis brother's wife, then let his brother's wifego upto the gateuntothe elders, and say, My husband's brotherrefusethto raise upunto his brothera namein Israel, he willnotperform the duty of my husband's brother. Then the eldersof his cityshall callhim, and speakuntohim: and if he stand to it , and say, I likenotto takeher; Then shall his brother's wifecomeuntohim in the presenceof the elders, and loosehis shoefrom offhis foot, and spitin his face, and shall answerand say, Soshall it be doneunto that manthatwill notbuild uphis brother's house. And his nameshall be calledin Israel, The houseof him that hath his shoeloosed. Whenmenstrivetogetheronewith another, and the wifeof the onedraweth nearfor to deliverher husbandout of the handof him that smitethhim, and putteth forthher hand, and takethhim by the secrets: Then thou shalt cut offher hand, thine eyeshall notpity her . Thou shalt nothavein thy bagdivers weights, a greatand a small. Thou shalt nothavein thine housedivers measures, a greatand a small. But thou shalt havea perfectand justweight, a perfectand justmeasureshalt thou have: thatthy daysmay be lengthenedinthe landwhichthe LORDthy Godgiveththee. Forallthat dosuch things, and allthat dounrighteously, are an abominationunto the LORDthy God. RememberwhatAmalekdidunto thee by the way, when ye were come forthout of Egypt; Howhe metthee by the way, and smote the hindmostof thee, even all that were feeblebehindthee, when thou wast faintand weary; and he fearednotGod. Therefore it shall be, when the LORDthy Godhath given thee restfrom allthine enemiesround about, in the landwhichthe LORDthy Godgiveththee for an inheritanceto possessit, that thou shalt blot outthe remembranceof Amalekfrom underheaven; thou shalt notforget it .
