Afterthisthere wasa feastof theJews; andJesuswent uptoJerusalem. Nowthere isatJerusalembythesheep market a pool, which is calledin the Hebrew tongueBethesda, havingfiveporches. Intheselaya greatmultitudeof impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting forthemovingof thewater. Foran angelwent downat a certain seasonintothepool, andtroubledthewater: whosoever thenfirstafterthetroublingof thewaterstepped inwas madewholeof whatsoeverdiseasehe had. Anda certainmanwasthere, which hadaninfirmitythirty and eightyears. When Jesussawhimlie, andknewthathe had beennowa longtime in that case, he saithunto him, Wilt thou be madewhole? Theimpotent manansweredhim, Sir, I havenoman, whenthewateris troubled, to putmeintothepool: butwhileIam coming, anothersteppeth downbeforeme. Jesussaithunto him, Rise, take upthybed, andwalk. Andimmediatelythemanwas madewhole, andtook uphisbed, andwalked: andonthesamedaywasthe sabbath. TheJewsthereforesaidunto him that was cured, It isthe sabbath day: it is not lawfulfor theeto carry thy bed. He answeredthem, He that mademewhole, the samesaidunto me, Take upthybed, andwalk. Thenaskedthey him, Whatmanisthat which saidunto thee, Take upthybed, andwalk? Andhe that was healedwistnotwhoit was: forJesushad conveyed himself away, a multitudebeingin that place. AfterwardJesusfindethhiminthetemple, andsaidunto him, Behold, thou art madewhole: sin no more, lest a worsethingcome unto thee. Themandeparted, andtoldtheJewsthatit wasJesus, which had madehimwhole. Andthereforedid theJewspersecuteJesus, andsoughtto slayhim, becausehe had donethese thingsonthe sabbath day. ButJesusansweredthem, MyFatherworkethhitherto, and Iwork. ThereforetheJewssoughtthe moreto killhim, becausehe notonlyhad brokenthesabbath, butsaidalsothat Godwas hisFather, makinghimselfequalwith God. ThenansweredJesusandsaidunto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, TheSoncandonothingofhimself, butwhat he seeththeFatherdo: for what things soeverhedoeth, thesealsodoeththeSonlikewise. FortheFatherloveththeSon, andshowethhim all thingsthathimselfdoeth: and he will showhimgreaterworks than these, thatye may marvel. ForastheFather raiseth upthedead, andquickeneth them ; even sotheSonquickenethwhom he will. FortheFatherjudgeth no man, but hath committedalljudgment unto theSon: Thatall men should honortheSon, even as they honortheFather. He that honorethnottheSonhonorethnottheFather which hath senthim. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hearethmyword, andbelieveth on him that sentme, hatheverlastinglife, and shall notcomeintocondemnation; but is passedfromdeathuntolife. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Thehour is coming, andnowis, whenthedead shall hearthevoice of theSon of God: and they that hear shall live. ForastheFatherhathlifeinhimself; so hath he giventotheSon to havelifeinhimself; And hath givenhimauthority to executejudgmentalso, because he is the Son of man. Marvelnot at this: for the hour is coming, in the whichallthat are inthegraves shall hearhisvoice, And shall come forth; they that have donegood, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have doneevil, unto the resurrection of damnation. Icanof mine own selfdonothing: as I hear, I judge: andmyjudgmentisjust; because I seeknot mine ownwill, butthewill of theFather which hath sentme. IfI bear witnessofmyself, mywitnessisnottrue. There isanother that beareth witnessofme; and I knowthatthewitnesswhich he witnessethofmeistrue. YesentuntoJohn, and he bare witness unto thetruth. ButIreceivenottestimonyfromman: but these things I say, thatye might be saved. Hewas a burningand a shininglight: andye were willingfor a season to rejoiceinhislight. ButIhavegreaterwitness than that of John: fortheworkswhichtheFather hath givenmetofinish, thesameworksthatIdo, bear witnessofme, thattheFather hath sentme. AndtheFatherhimself, which hath sentme, hath borne witnessofme. Ye have neitherheardhisvoice at any time, norseenhisshape. And ye havenothiswordabidinginyou: forwhomhe hath sent, himyebelievenot. SearchtheScriptures; forinthemyethink ye haveeternallife: andtheyare they which testifyofme. And ye willnotcometome, that ye might havelife. I receivenothonorfrommen. But I knowyou, that ye havenotthelove of Godinyou. I am comeinmyFather's name, and ye receivemenot: ifanother shall comein his ownname, him ye will receive. Howcanyebelieve, which receivehonor one of another, andseeknotthehonorthat cometh fromGodonly? Do notthinkthatI will accuseyoutotheFather: there is one that accusethyou, even Moses, inwhomyetrust. For had yebelievedMoses, ye would have believedme: forhewroteofme. Butif ye believenothiswritings, how shall ye believemywords?
