ThenJesussixdaysbeforethepassovercametoBethany, whereLazaruswaswhich had been dead, whomhe raisedfromthe dead. Therethey madehima supper; andMarthaserved: butLazaruswasoneof them that sat at the table withhim. ThentookMarya poundof ointmentof spikenard, very costly, and anointedthefeetof Jesus, andwipedhisfeetwith herhair: andthehousewas filledwiththeodorof theointment. Thensaithoneofhisdisciples, JudasIscariot, Simon's son, which shouldbetrayhim, Whywas notthisointmentsoldfor three hundredpence, andgivento the poor? Thishe said, notthathecaredforthepoor; butbecausehe wasa thief, andhadthebag, andbarewhat was puttherein. ThensaidJesus, Let her alone: againsttheday of myburying hath she keptthis. Forthepooralways ye havewithyou; butme ye havenotalways. MuchpeopleoftheJewsthereforeknewthathe wasthere: andthey camenotfor Jesus' sakeonly, butthatthey might seeLazarusalso, whomhe had raisedfromthe dead. Butthechief priestsconsultedthatthey might put Lazarus also to death; Becausethat by reason ofhimmanyof theJewswent away, andbelievedonJesus. On thenext daymuchpeoplethat were cometothefeast, when they heardthatJesuswas comingtoJerusalem, Tookbranchesof palm trees, andwent forthtomeethim, andcried, Hosanna: Blessed is theKingof Israelthat comethinthe nameof the Lord. AndJesus, when he had founda young ass, satthereon; asit iswritten, Fearnot, daughterof Zion; behold, thyKingcometh, sittingonan ass's colt. These thingsunderstoodnothisdisciplesat the first: butwhenJesuswas glorified, thenrememberedthey thatthese thingswerewrittenofhim, and that they had donethese thingsunto him. Thepeoplethereforethat waswithhimwhenhe calledLazarusout ofhis grave, andraisedhimfromthe dead, bare record. For this causethepeoplealsomethim, forthat they heardthat hehad donethismiracle. ThePhariseesthereforesaidamongthemselves, Perceiveye howye prevailnothing? behold, theworldis goneafterhim. Andthere werecertainGreeksamongthem that came uptoworshipatthefeast: The samecamethereforeto Philip, whichwas ofBethsaidaof Galilee, anddesiredhim, saying, Sir, we wouldseeJesus. PhilipcomethandtellethAndrew: andagainAndrewandPhiliptellJesus. AndJesusansweredthem, saying, Thehour is come, thattheSon of man should be glorified. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheatfallintotheground and die, itabidethalone: butif it die, it bringeth forthmuchfruit. He that lovethhislife shall loseit; and he that hatethhislifeinthisworld shall keepituntolifeeternal. If any manserveme, let him followme; andwhereIam, there shall alsomyservantbe: if any manserveme, him will my Fatherhonor. Now is mysoultroubled; andwhat shall I say? Father, savemefromthishour: but for this causecame I untothishour. Father, glorifythy name. Thencamethere a voicefromheaven, saying, I have bothglorified it, andwill glorify it again. Thepeopletherefore, that stood by, andheard it, saidthat it thundered: otherssaid, An angelspaketo him. Jesusansweredandsaid, Thisvoicecamenotbecause of me, but for your sakes. Nowis the judgment of thisworld: now shall theprince of thisworld be castout. And I, if I be lifted upfromtheearth, will drawall men untome. Thishe said, signifyingwhatdeathhe shoulddie. Thepeopleansweredhim, Wehave heardout ofthelawthatChristabidethforever: andhowsayestthou, TheSonof manmustbe lifted up? whoisthisSonof man? ThenJesussaidunto them, Yet a littlewhileisthelightwithyou. Walkwhile ye havethelight, lestdarkness come uponyou: for he that walkethindarknessknowethnotwhither he goeth. While ye havelight, believeinthelight, that ye may be the children of light. These thingsspakeJesus, anddeparted, and did hidehimself fromthem. Butthough hehad doneso manymiraclesbeforethem, yet they believednotonhim: Thatthesayingof Isaiahtheprophetmight be fulfilled, whichhe spake, Lord, whohath believedourreport? andto whomhath thearmof the Lordbeen revealed? Thereforethey couldnotbelieve, becausethat Isaiahsaidagain, He hath blindedtheireyes, andhardenedtheirheart; thatthey should notseewith their eyes, norunderstandwith their heart, andbe converted, andI should healthem. These thingssaidIsaiah, whenhe sawhisglory, andspakeofhim. Neverthelessamongthechief rulersalsomanybelievedonhim; butbecauseof thePhariseesthey did notconfess him, lestthey should beput out of the synagogue: Forthey lovedthepraiseof menmorethanthepraiseof God. Jesuscriedandsaid, He that believethonme, believethnotonme, buton him that sentme. And he that seethmeseeth him that sentme. I am come a lightintotheworld, thatwhosoeverbelievethonme should notabideindarkness. Andif any manhearmywords, andbelievenot, Ijudgehimnot: for I camenottojudgetheworld, buttosavetheworld. He that rejectethme, andreceivethnotmywords, hath one that judgethhim: thewordthat I have spoken, the same shall judgehiminthelastday. ForI have notspokenofmyself; but the Father which sentme, hegaveme a commandment, what I should say, andwhat I should speak. And I knowthathiscommandmentislifeeverlasting: whatsoeverIspeaktherefore, even astheFathersaid unto me, so I speak.
