Nowupon thefirst day of theweek, very early in the morning, they cameuntothesepulcher, bringingthe spiceswhichthey had prepared, andcertain others withthem. Andthey foundthestonerolled awayfromthesepulcher. Andthey entered in, and foundnotthebodyof theLordJesus. Andit came to pass, as theywere much perplexedthereabout, behold, twomenstood bytheminshininggarments: Andas theywereafraid, andbowed down their facestotheearth, they saiduntothem, Whyseekye thelivingamongthedead? He isnothere, butis risen: rememberhowhe spakeunto youwhen he wasyetinGalilee, Saying, theSonof manmustbe deliveredintothe handsof sinfulmen, andbe crucified, andthethirddayrise again. Andthey rememberedhiswords, Andreturnedfromthesepulcher, and toldallthese thingsunto theeleven, andto alltherest. It wasMaryMagdaleneandJoanna, andMary the mother of James, andother women that were withthem, whichtoldthese thingsuntotheapostles. Andtheirwordsseemedtothemasidle tales, andthey believed them not. ThenarosePeter, and ranuntothesepulcher; andstooping down, he beheldthelinen clotheslaidby themselves, anddeparted, wonderinginhimselfat that which was come to pass. And, behold, twoofthemwentthat samedaytoa villagecalledEmmaus, which wasfromJerusalem about threescorefurlongs. Andtheytalkedtogetherofallthese thingswhich had happened. Andit came to pass, that, while theycommuned together andreasoned, Jesushimselfdrew near, and went withthem. Buttheireyeswere holdenthat they should notknowhim. Andhe saiduntothem, What manner of communications are thesethat ye have one to another, as ye walk, andaresad? Andtheoneof them, whosenamewas Cleopas, answeringsaiduntohim, Art thou only a strangerinJerusalem, andhast notknownthe things which are come to passthereinthesedays? Andhe saidunto them, What things? Andtheysaidunto him, ConcerningJesusof Nazareth, whichwasaprophetmightyindeedandwordbeforeGodandallthepeople: Andhowthechief priestsandourrulersdeliveredhimtobe condemnedto death, andhave crucifiedhim. Butwetrustedthatit had beenhewhich shouldhave redeemedIsrael: andbesideallthis, todayisthethirddaysincethese thingswere done. Yea, andcertainwomenalsoofour companymade us astonished, which wereearlyatthesepulcher; Andwhen they foundnothisbody, they came, saying, that they had alsoseena visionof angels, whichsaidthat hewas alive. Andcertainof themwhich were withuswenttothesepulcher, andfound it evensoasthewomenhad said: buthimthey sawnot. Thenhesaiduntothem, Ofools, andslow of heart to believeallthattheprophets have spoken: OughtnotChrist to have suffered these things, and to enterintohisglory? AndbeginningatMosesandalltheprophets, he expoundedunto theminalltheScripturesthe thingsconcerninghimself. Andthey drew nighuntothevillage, whitherthey went: andhemade as thoughhe would have gonefurther. Butthey constrainedhim, saying, Abidewithus: forit istowardevening, andthedayis far spent. Andhe went into tarrywiththem. Andit came to pass, as hesat at meatwiththem, he tookbread, and blessed it, andbroke, and gaveto them. Andtheireyeswere opened, andthey knewhim; andhevanishedout of their sight. Andthey saidone to another, Did notourheartburnwithinus, whilehe talkedwith usbytheway, andwhilehe openedto ustheScriptures? Andthey rose upthesamehour, and returnedtoJerusalem, andfoundtheelevengathered together, andthemthat were withthem, Saying, TheLordis risenindeed, andhath appearedto Simon. Andtheytoldwhat things were done intheway, andhowhe was knownof theminbreakingof bread. Andas theythusspake, Jesushimselfstoodinthe midstof them, andsaithunto them, Peace be unto you. Butthey were terrifiedandaffrighted, and supposedthat they had seena spirit. Andhe saidunto them, Whyare ye troubled? andwhy do thoughtsariseinyourhearts? Beholdmyhandsandmyfeet, that it isImyself: handleme, andsee; for a spirithathnotfleshandbones, as ye seemehave. Andwhen he had thusspoken, he showedthem his handsand his feet. Andwhile theyyetbelieved notforjoy, andwondered, he saidunto them, Have ye hereanymeat? Andtheygavehima pieceof a broiledfish, andofa honeycomb. Andhe took it, and did eatbeforethem. Andhe saidunto them, These are thewordswhich I spakeuntoyou, while I wasyetwithyou, that all thingsmust be fulfilled, which were writteninthelaw of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerningme. Thenopenedhe theirunderstanding, that they might understandtheScriptures, Andsaidunto them, Thus it is written, andthus it behoovedChrist to suffer, and to risefrom the deadthethirdday: And that repentanceandremission of sins should be preachedinhisnameamongallnations, beginningatJerusalem. Andyearewitnesses of these things. And, behold, Isendthepromise of myFatheruponyou: buttarryyeinthecity of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with powerfrom on high. Andhe ledthemoutas far astoBethany, andhe lifted uphishands, and blessedthem. Andit came to pass, while heblessedthem, he was partedfromthem, andcarried upintoheaven. Andtheyworshipedhim, and returnedtoJerusalemwithgreatjoy: Andwerecontinuallyinthetemple, praisingandblessingGod. Amen.
