ThensaidSolomon, The LORDhath saidthat he would dwellin the thick darkness. But Ihave builta houseof habitationfor thee, and a placefor thy dwellingforever. And the kingturnedhis face, and blessedthe wholecongregationof Israel: and allthe congregationof Israelstood. And he said, Blessed be the LORDGodof Israel, who hath with his handsfulfilled that whichhe spokewith his mouthtomy fatherDavid, saying, Sincethe daythatI brought forthmy peopleout of the landof EgyptI chosenocityamong allthe tribesof Israelto builda housein, that my namemight bethere; neitherchoseI any manto bea rulerovermy peopleIsrael: But I have chosenJerusalem, that my namemight bethere; and have chosenDavidto beovermy peopleIsrael. Now it wasinthe heartof Davidmy fatherto builda housefor the nameof the LORDGodof Israel. But the LORDsaidtoDavidmy father, Forasmuchas it wasinthine heartto builda housefor my name, thou didst wellin thatit wasinthine heart: Notwithstandingthoushalt notbuildthe house; butthy sonwhich shall come forthout ofthy loins, heshall buildthe housefor my name. The LORDtherefore hath performedhis wordthathe hath spoken: for I am risen upin the roomof Davidmy father, and am setonthe throneof Israel, asthe LORDpromised, and have builtthe housefor the nameof the LORDGodof Israel. And in ithave I putthe ark, wherein is the covenantof the LORD, thathe madewiththe childrenof Israel. And he stoodbeforethe altarof the LORDin the presence ofallthe congregationof Israel, and spread forthhis hands: ForSolomonhad madea brazenscaffold, of fivecubitslong, and fivecubitsbroad, and threecubitshigh, and had setit in the midstof the court: and uponit he stood, and kneeled downuponhis kneesbeforeallthe congregationof Israel, and spread forthhis handstoward heaven, And said, O LORDGodof Israel, there is noGodlike theein the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepestcovenant, and showest mercyunto thy servants, that walkbeforethee with alltheir hearts: Thou whichhast keptwith thy servantDavidmy fatherthat whichthou hast promisedhim; and spakestwith thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is thisday. Nowtherefore, O LORDGodof Israel, keepwith thy servantDavidmy fatherthat whichthou hast promisedhim, saying, There shall notfailthee a manin my sightto situponthe throneof Israel; yet sothat thy childrentake heedto their wayto walkin my law, asthou hast walkedbeforeme. Nowthen, O LORDGodof Israel, let thy wordbe verified, whichthou hast spokenunto thy servantDavid. Butwill Godin very deeddwellwithmenonthe earth? behold, heavenand the heavenof heavenscannotcontainthee; how much lessthishousewhichI have built! Have respecttherefore tothe prayerof thy servant, and tohis supplication, O LORDmy God, to hearkenuntothe cryand the prayerwhichthy servantprayethbeforethee: That thine eyesmay beopenuponthishousedayand night, uponthe placewhereofthou hast saidthat thou wouldest putthy namethere; to hearkenuntothe prayerwhichthy servantprayethtowardthisplace. Hearkentherefore untothe supplicationsof thy servant, and of thy peopleIsrael, whichthey shall maketowardthisplace: hearthoufrom thy dwellingplace, even fromheaven; and when thou hearest, forgive. Ifa mansinagainst his neighbor, and an oathbe laidupon him to make him swear, and the oathcomebeforethine altarin thishouse; Then hearthoufromheaven, and do, and judgethy servants, by requitingthe wicked, by recompensinghis wayupon his own head; and by justifyingthe righteous, by givinghim according to his righteousness. And ifthy peopleIsraelbe put to the worsebeforethe enemy, becausethey have sinnedagainst thee; and shall returnand confessthy name, and prayand make supplicationbeforethee in thishouse; Then hearthoufromthe heavens, and forgivethe sinof thy peopleIsrael, and bring them againuntothe landwhichthou gavestto them and to their fathers. When the heavenis shut up, and there isnorain, becausethey have sinnedagainst thee; yet if they praytowardthisplace, and confessthy name, and turnfrom their sin, whenthou dost afflictthem; Then hearthoufrom heaven, and forgivethe sinof thy servants, and of thy peopleIsrael, whenthou hast taughtthem the goodway, whereinthey should walk; and sendrainuponthy land, whichthou hast givenunto thy peoplefor an inheritance. Ifthere bedearthin the land, ifthere bepestilence, ifthere beblasting, or mildew, locusts, or caterpillars; iftheir enemiesbesiegethem in the citiesof their land; whatsoeversoreor whatsoeversickness there be : Then whatprayer or whatsupplicationsoevershall be madeof anyman, or of allthy peopleIsrael, whenevery oneshall knowhis own soreand his own grief, and shall spread forthhis handsinthishouse: Then hearthoufromheaventhy dwellingplace, and forgive, and renderunto every manaccording unto allhis ways, whose heartthou knowest; ( forthouonlyknowestthe heartsof the childrenof men:) Thatthey may fearthee, to walkin thy ways, so longastheyliveinthe landwhichthou gavestunto our fathers. Moreoverconcerningthe stranger, whichis notof thy peopleIsrael, but is comefrom a farcountryfor thy great name's sake, and thy mightyhand, and thy stretched outarm; if they comeand prayinthishouse; Then hearthoufromthe heavens, even from thy dwellingplace, and doaccording to allthatthe strangercallethtothee for; thatallpeopleof the earthmay knowthy name, and fearthee, as doth thy peopleIsrael, and may knowthatthishousewhichI have builtis calledby thy name. Ifthy peoplego outto waragainsttheir enemiesby the waythatthou shalt sendthem, and they prayuntothee towardthiscitywhichthou hast chosen, and the housewhichI have builtfor thy name; Then hearthou fromthe heavenstheir prayerand their supplication, and maintaintheir cause. Ifthey sinagainst thee, ( for there is nomanwhichsinnethnot,) and thou be angrywith them, and deliverthem over before their enemies, and they carry them away captivesuntoa landfar offornear; Yet if they bethink themselvesin the landwhitherthey are carried captive, and turnand prayuntothee in the landof their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done amiss, and have dealt wickedly; If they returntothee with alltheir heartand with alltheir soulin the landof their captivity, whitherthey have carried them captives, and praytowardtheir land, whichthou gavestunto their fathers, and toward the citywhichthou hast chosen, and toward the housewhichI have builtfor thy name: Then hearthou fromthe heavens, even from thy dwellingplace, their prayerand their supplications, and maintaintheir cause, and forgivethy peoplewhichhave sinnedagainst thee. Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyesbeopen, and let thine ears be attentunto the prayer that is made in thisplace. Nowtherefore arise, O LORDGod, into thy resting place, thou, and the arkof thy strength: let thy priests, O LORDGod, be clothedwith salvation, and let thy saintsrejoicein goodness. O LORDGod, turn not awaythe faceof thine anointed: rememberthe merciesof Davidthy servant.
