And he saiduntothem, Come againuntome afterthreedays. And the peopledeparted. And kingRehoboamtook counselwiththe old menthathadstoodbeforeSolomonhis fatherwhile he yet lived, saying, Whatcounsel giveye me to returnanswerto thispeople? And they spokeuntohim, saying, Ifthou bekindto thispeople, and pleasethem, and speakgoodwordstothem, they will bethy servantsforever. But he forsookthe counselwhichthe old mengavehim, and took counselwiththe young menthatwere brought upwithhim, that stoodbeforehim. And he saiduntothem, Whatadvice giveyethat we may returnanswerto thispeople, whichhave spokentome, saying, Easesomewhatthe yokethatthy fatherdid putuponus? And the young menthatwere brought upwithhim spokeuntohim, saying, Thusshalt thou answerthe peoplethatspokeuntothee, saying, Thy fathermade our yoke heavy, but make thou it somewhat lighterforus; thusshalt thou sayuntothem, My little finger shall be thickerthan my father's loins. For whereasmy fatherputa heavyyokeuponyou, Iwill put moretoyour yoke: my fatherchastisedyou with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. So Jeroboamand allthe peoplecametoRehoboamon the thirdday, asthe kingbade, saying, Come againtome on the thirdday. And the kingansweredthem roughly; and kingRehoboamforsookthe counselof the old men, And answeredthem after the adviceof the young men, saying, My fathermade your yoke heavy, but Iwill addthereto: my fatherchastisedyou with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. So the kinghearkenednotuntothe people: forthe causewasofGod, thatthe LORDmight performhis word, whichhe spokeby the handof Ahijahthe ShilonitetoJeroboamthe sonof Nebat. And when allIsrael saw thatthe kingwould nothearkenunto them, the peopleansweredthe king, saying, Whatportionhave we in David? and we have noneinheritancein the sonof Jesse: every manto your tents, O Israel: and now, David, seeto thine own house. So allIsraelwentto their tents. But as for the childrenof Israelthat dweltin the citiesof Judah, Rehoboamreignedoverthem. Then kingRehoboamsentHadoramthat was overthe tribute; and the childrenof Israelstonedhim with stones, that he died. But kingRehoboammade speedto get him upto his chariot, to fleeto Jerusalem. And Israelrebelledagainst the houseof Daviduntothisday.
