Then the kingsentto callAhimelechthe priest, the sonof Ahitub, and allhis father's house, the prieststhat were in Nob: and they cameallof them tothe king. And Saulsaid, Hearnow, thou sonof Ahitub. And he answered, HereI am , my lord. Then Ahimelechansweredthe king, and said, And who is so faithfulamong allthy servantsas David, which is the king's son-in-law, and goethatthy bidding, and is honorablein thine house? Did I thenbeginto inquireof Godfor him? be it farfrom me: let notthe kingimpute any thingunto his servant, nor to allthe houseof my father: forthy servantknewnothingof allthis, lessormore. And the kingsaid, Thou shalt surely die, Ahimelech, thou, and allthy father's house. And the kingsaidunto the footmenthat stoodabouthim, Turn, and slaythe priestsof the LORD; becausetheir handalso is withDavid, and becausethey knewwhenhefled, and did notshowit to me. But the servantsof the kingwouldnotput forththeir handto fallupon the priestsof the LORD. And the kingsaidto Doeg, Turnthou, and fallupon the priests. And Doegthe Edomiteturned, and hefellupon the priests, and slewon thatdayfourscoreand fivepersonsthat did weara linenephod. And Nob, the cityof the priests, smotehe with the edgeof the sword, both menand women, childrenand sucklings, and oxen, and asses, and sheep, with the edgeof the sword. And oneof the sonsof Ahimelechthe sonof Ahitub, namedAbiathar, escaped, and fledafterDavid. And AbiatharshowedDavidthatSaulhad slainthe LORD's priests. And Davidsaidunto Abiathar, I knew it thatday, whenDoegthe Edomite was there, thathe would surely tellSaul: Ihave occasioned the death of allthe personsof thy father's house. Abidethou withme, fearnot: forhe thatseekethmy lifeseekeththy life: butwithme thou shalt be in safeguard.
