And Samsonwent downto Timnath, and sawa womanin Timnathof the daughtersof the Philistines. And he came up, and toldhis fatherand his mother, and said, I have seena womanin Timnathof the daughtersof the Philistines: nowtherefore gether for me to wife. Then his fatherand his mothersaidunto him, Is there nevera womanamong the daughtersof thy brethren, or among allmy people, thatthougoestto takea wifeof the uncircumcisedPhilistines? And Samsonsaiduntohis father, Gether for me; forshepleaseth me well. But his fatherand his motherknewnotthatit was of the LORD, thathesoughtan occasionagainst the Philistines: for at thattimethe Philistineshad dominionover Israel. Then went Samson down, and his fatherand his mother, to Timnath, and cametothe vineyardsof Timnath: and, behold, a younglionroaredagainsthim. And the Spiritof the LORDcame mightilyuponhim, and he renthim as he would have renta kid, and he had nothingin his hand: but he toldnothis fatheror his motherwhathe had done. And he went down, and talkedwith the woman; and she pleased Samson well. And after a timehe returnedto takeher, and he turned asideto seethe carcassof the lion: and, behold, there was a swarmof beesand honeyin the carcassof the lion. And he tookthereof inhis hands, and went oneating, and cametohis fatherand mother, and he gavethem, and they did eat: but he toldnotthem thathe had takenthe honeyout of the carcassof the lion. So his fatherwent downuntothe woman: and Samsonmadetherea feast; forsoused the young mento do. And it came to pass, when they sawhim, that they broughtthirtycompanionsto bewithhim. And Samsonsaidunto them, I will nowput fortha riddleunto you: ifye can certainly declareit me within the sevendaysof the feast, and find it out, then I will giveyou thirtysheetsand thirtychangeof garments: But ifye cannotdeclare it me, then shall yegiveme thirtysheetsand thirtychangeof garments. And they saidunto him, Put forththy riddle, that we may hearit. And he saidunto them, Out of the eatercame forthmeat, and out of the strongcame forthsweetness. And they couldnotin threedaysexpoundthe riddle. And it came to passon the seventhday, that they saidunto Samson's wife, Enticethy husband, that he may declareunto us the riddle, lestwe burnthee and thy father's housewith fire: have ye calledus to take that we have? is it not so ? And Samson's wifeweptbeforehim, and said, Thou dost buthateme, and lovestme not: thou hast put fortha riddleunto the childrenof my people, and hast nottold it me. And he saidunto her, Behold, I have nottold it my fathernor my mother, and shall I tell it thee? And she weptbeforehim the sevendays, whiletheir feastlasted: and it came to passon the seventhday, that he toldher, becauseshe lay soreupon him: and she toldthe riddleto the childrenof her people. And the menof the citysaidunto him on the seventhdaybeforethe sunwent down, What is sweeterthan honey? and what is strongerthan a lion? And he saidunto them, Ifye had not plowedwith my heifer, ye had notfound outmy riddle. And the Spiritof the LORDcameuponhim, and he went downto Ashkelon, and slewthirtymenofthem, and tooktheir spoil, and gavechange of garmentsunto them which expoundedthe riddle. And his angerwas kindled, and he went upto his father's house. But Samson's wifewas given to his companion, whomhe had used as his friend.
