And Judahsaidunto Simeonhis brother, Come upwithme into my lot, that we may fightagainst the Canaanites; and Ilikewisewill gowiththee into thy lot. So Simeonwentwithhim. And Judahwent up; and the LORDdeliveredthe Canaanitesand the Perizzitesinto their hand: and they slewof them in Bezektenthousandmen. And they foundAdoni-bezek in Bezek: and they foughtagainst him, and they slewthe Canaanitesand the Perizzites. But Adoni-bezek fled; and they pursuedafterhim, and caughthim, and cut offhis thumbsand his great toes. And Adoni-bezek said, Threescore and tenkings, having their thumbsand their great toescut off, gathered their meat undermy table: asI have done, soGodhath requitedme. And they broughthim to Jerusalem, and therehe died. Now the childrenof Judahhad foughtagainst Jerusalem, and had takenit, and smittenit with the edgeof the sword, and setthe cityon fire. And afterwardthe childrenof Judahwent downto fightagainst the Canaanites, that dweltin the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley. And Judahwentagainstthe Canaanitesthat dweltin Hebron: (now the nameof Hebronbefore was Kirjath-arba:) and they slewSheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai. And from thencehe wentagainstthe inhabitantsof Debir: and the nameof Debirbefore was Kirjath-sepher: And Calebsaid, He thatsmitethKirjath-sepher, and takethit, to him will I giveAchsahmy daughterto wife. And Othnielthe sonof Kenaz, Caleb's youngerbrother, tookit: and he gavehim Achsahhis daughterto wife. And it came to pass, when she came to him , that she movedhim to askofher fathera field: and she lightedfrom off her ass; and Calebsaidunto her, Whatwilt thou? And she saidunto him, Giveme a blessing: forthou hast givenme a southland; giveme also springsof water. And Calebgaveher the upperspringsand the nethersprings. And the childrenof the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, went upout of the cityof palm treeswiththe childrenof Judahinto the wildernessof Judah, which lieth in the southof Arad; and they wentand dweltamongthe people. And JudahwentwithSimeonhis brother, and they slewthe Canaanitesthat inhabitedZephath, and utterly destroyedit. And the nameof the citywas calledHormah. Also JudahtookGazawiththe coastthereof, and Askelonwith the coastthereof, and Ekronwith the coastthereof. And the LORDwaswithJudah; and he drove out the inhabitants of the mountain; butcould notdrive outthe inhabitantsof the valley, becausethey had chariotsof iron. And they gaveHebronunto Caleb, asMosessaid: and he expelledthencethe threesonsof Anak. And the childrenof Benjamindid notdrive outthe Jebusitesthat inhabitedJerusalem; but the Jebusitesdwellwiththe childrenof Benjaminin Jerusalemuntothisday. And the houseof Joseph, theyalsowent upagainst Bethel: and the LORD was withthem. And the houseof Josephsent to descryBethel. (Now the nameof the citybefore was Luz.) And the spiessawa mancome forthout ofthe city, and they saidunto him, Showus, we pray thee, the entranceinto the city, and we will showthee mercy. And when he showedthem the entranceinto the city, they smotethe citywith the edgeof the sword; but they let gothe manand allhis family. And the manwentinto the landof the Hittites, and builta city, and calledthe namethereof Luz: which is the namethereof untothisday. Neitherdid Manassehdrive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean and her towns, nor Taanachand her towns, nor the inhabitantsof Dorand her towns, nor the inhabitantsof Ibleamand her towns, nor the inhabitantsof Megiddoand her towns: but the Canaaniteswoulddwellin thatland. And it came to pass, whenIsraelwas strong, that they putthe Canaanitesto tribute, and did notutterly drive them out. Neitherdid Ephraimdrive outthe Canaanitesthat dweltin Gezer; but the Canaanitesdweltin Gezeramongthem. Neitherdid Zebulundrive outthe inhabitantsof Kitron, nor the inhabitantsof Nahalol; but the Canaanitesdweltamongthem, and becametributaries. Neitherdid Asherdrive outthe inhabitantsof Accho, nor the inhabitantsof Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob: But the Asheritesdweltamongthe Canaanites, the inhabitantsof the land: forthey did notdrive them out. Neitherdid Naphtalidrive outthe inhabitantsof Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitantsof Beth-anath; but he dweltamongthe Canaanites, the inhabitantsof the land: nevertheless the inhabitantsof Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath becametributariesunto them. And the Amoritesforcedthe childrenof Daninto the mountain: forthey would notsufferthem to come downto the valley: But the Amoriteswoulddwellin mountHeresin Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the handof the houseof Josephprevailed, so that they becametributaries. And the coastof the Amorites was from the going upto Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
