And it came to pass, when allthe kingsof the Amorites, which were on the sideof Jordanwestward, and allthe kingsof the Canaanites, which were bythe sea, heardthatthe LORDhad dried upthe watersof Jordanfrom beforethe childrenof Israel, untilwe were passed over, that their heartmelted, neitherwasthere spiritin them any more, becauseof the childrenof Israel. At thattimethe LORDsaiduntoJoshua, Makethee sharpknives, and circumciseagainthe childrenof Israelthe secondtime. And Joshuamadehim sharpknives, and circumcisedthe childrenof Israelatthe hillof the foreskins. And this is the causewhyJoshuadid circumcise: Allthe peoplethat came outof Egypt, that were males, even allthe menof war, diedin the wildernessby the way, after they came outof Egypt. Nowallthe peoplethat came outwerecircumcised: but allthe people that were bornin the wildernessby the wayas they came forthout of Egypt, them they had notcircumcised. Forthe childrenof Israelwalkedfortyyearsin the wilderness, tillallthe people that were menof war, which came outof Egypt, were consumed, becausethey obeyednotthe voiceof the LORD: unto whomthe LORDsworethat he would notshowthem the land, whichthe LORDsworeunto their fathersthat he would giveus, a landthat flowethwith milkand honey. And their children, whom he raised upin their stead, them Joshuacircumcised: forthey wereuncircumcised, becausethey had notcircumcisedthem by the way. And it came to pass, whenthey had donecircumcisingallthe people, that they abodein their placesin the camp, tillthey were whole. And the LORDsaiduntoJoshua, This dayhave I rolled awaythe reproachof Egyptfrom offyou. Wherefore the nameof the placeis calledGilgaluntothisday. And the childrenof Israelencampedin Gilgal, and keptthe passoveron the fourteenthdayof the monthat evenin the plainsof Jericho. And they did eatof the old cornof the landon the morrow afterthe passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsameday. And the mannaceasedon the morrowafter they had eatenof the old cornof the land; neitherhadthe childrenof Israelmannaany more; but they did eatof the fruitof the landof Canaanthatyear. And it came to pass, when Joshuawasby Jericho, that he lifted uphis eyesand looked, and, behold, there stooda manover againsthim with his sworddrawnin his hand: and Joshuawentunto him, and saidunto him, Art thoufor us, orfor our adversaries? And he said, Nay; but as captainof the hostof the LORDam Inowcome. And Joshuafellonhis faceto the earth, and did worship, and saidunto him, Whatsaithmy lorduntohis servant? And the captainof the LORD's hostsaiduntoJoshua, Loosethy shoefrom offthy foot; forthe placewhereonthoustandest is holy. And Joshuadidso.
