If one be foundslainin the landwhichthe LORDthy Godgiveththee to possessit, lyingin the field, and it be notknownwhohath slainhim: Then thy eldersand thy judgesshall come forth, and they shall measureuntothe citieswhich are round abouthim that is slain: And it shall be, that the city which is nextuntothe slain man, even the eldersof thatcityshall takea heifer, whichhath notbeen wroughtwith, and whichhath notdrawnin the yoke; And the eldersof thatcityshall bring downthe heiferuntoa roughvalley, whichis neitherearednorsown, and shall strike offthe heifer's necktherein the valley: And the prieststhe sonsof Levishall come near; forthem the LORDthy Godhath chosento ministerunto him, and to blessin the nameof the LORD; and bytheir wordshall everycontroversyand everystrokebe tried : And allthe eldersof thatcity, that are nextuntothe slain man , shall washtheir handsoverthe heiferthat is beheadedin the valley: And they shall answerand say, Our handshave notshedthisblood, neitherhave our eyesseen it . Be merciful, O LORD, unto thy peopleIsrael, whomthou hast redeemed, and laynotinnocentbloodunto thy peopleof Israel's charge. And the bloodshall be forgiventhem. So shalt thouput awaythe guilt of innocentbloodfrom amongyou, whenthou shalt do that which is rightin the sightof the LORD. Whenthou goest forthto waragainstthine enemies, and the LORDthy Godhath deliveredthem into thine hands, and thou hast takenthem captive, And seestamong the captivesa beautifulwoman, and hast a desireunto her, that thou wouldest haveher to thy wife; Then thou shalt bringher hometo thine house; and she shall shaveher head, and pareher nails; And she shall putthe raimentof her captivityfrom offher, and shall remainin thine house, and bewailher fatherand her mothera fullmonth: and afterthatthou shalt go inuntoher, and be her husband, and she shall bethy wife. And it shall be, ifthou have no delightin her, then thou shalt let her gowhither she will; but thou shalt notsell her at allfor money, thou shalt notmake merchandiseof her, becausethou hast humbledher. Ifa manhavetwowives, onebeloved, and anotherhated, and they have bornhim children, both the belovedand the hated; and if the firstbornsonbehers that was hated: Then it shall be, whenhe maketh his sonsto inherit that whichhe hath, that he maynotmakethe sonof the belovedfirstbornbeforethe sonof the hated, which is indeed the firstborn: Buthe shall acknowledgethe sonof the hated for the firstborn, by givinghim a doubleportionof allthathe hath: forhe is the beginningof his strength; the rightof the firstborn is his. Ifa manhavea stubbornand rebelliousson, which will notobeythe voiceof his father, or the voiceof his mother, and that , when they have chastenedhim, will nothearkenuntothem: Then shall his fatherand his motherlay holdon him, and bring him outuntothe eldersof his city, and untothe gateof his place; And they shall sayuntothe eldersof his city, Thisour son is stubbornand rebellious, he will notobeyour voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. And allthe menof his cityshall stonehim with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil awayfrom amongyou; and allIsraelshall hear, and fear. And ifa manhave committeda sinworthyof death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hanghim ona tree: His bodyshall notremain all nightuponthe tree, butthou shalt in any wise buryhim thatday; ( forhe that is hanged is accursedof God;) that thy landbe notdefiled, whichthe LORDthy Godgiveththee for an inheritance.
