Afterthese thingsJesuswentovertheseaof Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. Anda greatmultitudefollowedhim, becausethey sawhismiracleswhichhe didonthem that were diseased. AndJesuswent upintoa mountain, andtherehe satwithhisdisciples. Andthepassover, a feastof theJews, wasnigh. When Jesusthenlifted up his eyes, andsawagreatcompanycomeuntohim, he saithuntoPhilip, Whence shall we buybread, thatthese may eat? Andthishe saidto provehim: forhehimself knewwhathe woulddo. Philipansweredhim, Two hundredpennyworthof breadis not sufficientfor them, thatevery oneof themmay takea little. Oneofhisdisciples, Andrew, SimonPeter's brother, saithunto him, There isaladhere, whichhathfivebarleyloaves, andtwosmall fishes: butwhataretheyamongso many? AndJesussaid, Makethemen sit down. Nowthere wasmuchgrassintheplace. Sothemensat down, in numberaboutfive thousand. AndJesustooktheloaves; andwhen he had given thanks, he distributedto thedisciples, andthedisciplesto them that were set down; andlikewiseofthefishesas much asthey would. Whenthey were filled, he saidunto hisdisciples, Gather upthefragments that remain, thatnothing be lost. Thereforethey gathered them together, andfilledtwelvebasketswith the fragmentsofthefivebarleyloaves, whichremained over and aboveunto them that had eaten. Thenthose men, when they had seenthe miraclethatJesusdid, said, Thisisof a truththat prophetthat should comeintotheworld. When Jesusthereforeperceivedthatthey wouldcomeandtake him by force, tomakehima king, he departedagainintoa mountainhimselfalone. Andwhenevenwas now come, hisdiscipleswent downuntothesea, Andenteredintoa ship, and wentovertheseatowardCapernaum. Andit wasnowdark, andJesuswas notcometothem. Andtheseaaroseby reason of a greatwindthat blew. Sowhen they had rowedaboutfive and twentyorthirtyfurlongs, they seeJesuswalkingonthesea, anddrawingnighunto theship: andthey were afraid. Buthesaithunto them, It isI; be not afraid. Thenthey willinglyreceivedhimintotheship: andimmediatelytheshipwasatthelandwhitherthey went. Theday following, when thepeoplewhich stoodon the other sideof theseasawthatthere wasnoneotherboatthere, savethatonewhereintohisdiscipleswere entered, andthatJesuswent not withhisdisciplesintotheboat, but that hisdiscipleswere gone awayalone; ( Howbeitthere cameotherboatsfromTiberiasnigh untotheplacewherethey did eatbread, after that theLordhad given thanks:) WhenthepeoplethereforesawthatJesuswasnotthere, neitherhisdisciples, theyalsotookshipping, andcametoCapernaum, seeking forJesus. Andwhen they had foundhimon the other sideof thesea, they saidunto him, Rabbi, whencamestthou hither? Jesusansweredthemandsaid, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seekme, notbecause ye saw the miracles, butbecause ye did eatoftheloaves, and were filled. Labornot for themeat which perisheth, but for that meat which endurethuntoeverlastinglife, whichtheSon of man shall give unto you: forhim hath GodtheFathersealed. Thensaidthey untohim, Whatshall we do, thatwe might worktheworksof God? Jesusansweredandsaidunto them, Thisisthework of God, that ye believeon him whomhe hath sent. They saidthereforeunto him, Whatsignshowestthouthen, thatwe may see, andbelievethee? whatdost thou work? Ourfathersdid eatmannainthedesert; asit iswritten, He gavethembreadfromheavento eat. ThenJesussaidunto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Mosesgaveyounot that breadfromheaven; butmyFathergivethyouthetruebreadfromheaven. Forthebread of Godis he which cometh downfromheaven, andgivethlife unto theworld. Thensaidthey untohim, Lord, evermoregiveusthisbread. AndJesussaidunto them, Iamthebread of life: he that comethtome shall neverhunger; and he that believethonme shall neverthirst. But I said unto you, That ye also have seenme, andbelievenot. AllthattheFathergivethme shall cometome; and him that comethtome I will in no wisecastout. For I came downfromheaven, nottodo mine ownwill, butthewill of him that sentme. AndthisistheFather's will which hath sentme, that of allwhich he hath givenme I shouldlosenothing, but should raise it up againatthelastday. Andthisisthewill of him that sentme, that every one which seeththeSon, andbelievethonhim, may haveeverlastinglife: andI will raise him up at thelastday. TheJewsthenmurmuredathim, becausehe said, Iamthebreadwhich came downfromheaven. Andthey said, IsnotthisJesus, thesonof Joseph, whosefatherandmotherweknow? howis it thenthat hesaith, I came downfromheaven? Jesusthereforeansweredandsaidunto them, Murmurnotamongyourselves. No mancancometome, excepttheFather which hath sentmedrawhim: andI will raise him up at thelastday. It iswrittenintheprophets, And they shall bealltaught of God. Every mantherefore that hath heard, and hath learnedoftheFather, comethuntome. Notthat any man hath seentheFather, save he which isofGod, he hath seentheFather. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believethonmehatheverlastinglife. Iam that bread of life. Yourfathers did eatmannainthewilderness, and are dead. Thisisthebread which cometh downfromheaven, that a man may eatthereof, andnotdie. Iamthelivingbread which came downfromheaven: if any maneatofthisbread, he shall liveforever: andthebreadthatI will giveismyflesh, whichI will giveforthelife of theworld. TheJewsthereforestroveamongthemselves, saying, Howcanthis mangiveus his fleshto eat? ThenJesussaidunto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eattheflesh of theSon of man, anddrinkhisblood, ye havenolifeinyou. Whoso eatethmyflesh, anddrinkethmyblood, hatheternallife; andI will raise him up at thelastday. Formyfleshismeatindeed, andmybloodisdrinkindeed. He that eatethmyflesh, anddrinkethmyblood, dwellethinme, and Iinhim. AsthelivingFather hath sentme, and IlivebytheFather: so he that eatethme, even he shall livebyme. Thisis that bread which came downfromheaven: notasyourfathers did eatmanna, and are dead: he that eateth of thisbread shall liveforever. These thingssaidhe inthe synagogue, as he taughtinCapernaum. Manythereforeofhisdisciples, when they had heard this, said, Thisisa hardsaying; whocanhearit? WhenJesusknewinhimselfthathisdisciplesmurmuredatit, he saidunto them, Doth thisoffendyou? What andif ye shall seetheSon of man ascend upwhere he wasbefore? It isthespirit that quickeneth; thefleshprofitethnothing: thewordsthatIspeak unto you, they arespirit, and they arelife. But there aresomeofyouthatbelievenot. ForJesusknewfromthe beginningwhothey werethat believednot, andwhoshouldbetrayhim. Andhe said, Thereforesaid I unto you, that no mancancomeuntome, except it weregiven unto himofmyFather. Fromthat time manyof hisdiscipleswentback, andwalkedno morewithhim. ThensaidJesusunto thetwelve, Willyealso go away? ThenSimonPeteransweredhim, Lord, towhomshall we go? thou hastthe wordsof eternallife. Andwebelieveandare surethatthouartthat Christ, theSonof thelivingGod. Jesusansweredthem, Have notIchosenyoutwelve, andoneofyouis a devil? He spakeof JudasIscariot the son of Simon: forheit was that shouldbetrayhim, beingoneofthetwelve.
