Andhe saidalsountohisdisciples, There was a certainrichman, whichhad a steward; and the same was accused unto himthat he had wastedhisgoods. And he calledhim, and said unto him, How is it that I hearthisofthee? give an account of thystewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. Thenthestewardsaidwithinhimself, What shall I do? formylord taketh awayfrommethestewardship: I cannotdig; to beg I am ashamed. I am resolvedwhat to do, that, when I am put out of thestewardship, they may receivemeintotheirhouses. So he calledeveryone of hislord's debtors unto him, and said unto thefirst, how muchowest thou unto mylord? Andhesaid, A hundredmeasures of oil. And he said unto him, Takethybill, and sit downquickly, and writefifty. Thensaid he to another, And how muchowestthou? Andhesaid, A hundredmeasures of wheat. And he said unto him, Takethybill, andwritefourscore. Andthelordcommendedtheunjuststeward, because he had donewisely: forthechildren of thisworldareintheirgenerationwiserthanthechildren of light. And Isay unto you, Make to yourselvesfriendsofthemammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receiveyouintoeverlastinghabitations. He that is faithfulin that which is leastisfaithfulalsoinmuch: and he that is unjustin the leastisunjustalsoinmuch. Iftherefore ye have notbeenfaithfulintheunrighteousmammon, who will commit to your trustthetrue riches ? Andif ye have notbeenfaithfulin that which is another man's, who shall giveyou that which is your own? Noservantcanservetwomasters: foreither he will hatetheone, andlovetheother; or else he will hold to the one, anddespisetheother. Ye cannotserveGodandmammon. AndthePhariseesalso, who werecovetous, heardallthese things: andthey deridedhim. Andhe saidunto them, Yeare they which justifyyourselvesbeforemen; butGodknowethyourhearts: for that which is highly esteemedamongmenisabomination in the sight of God. Thelawandtheprophets were untilJohn: since that timethekingdom of God is preached, and every manpressethintoit. And it iseasier for heavenandearth to pass, thanonetittle of thelaw to fail. Whosoever putteth awayhiswife, andmarriethanother, committeth adultery: andwhosoevermarrieth her that is put awayfrom her husband committeth adultery. Therewas a certainrichman, which was clothed in purpleand fine linen, and faredsumptuously every day: And there was a certainbeggarnamedLazarus, which was laidathisgate, full of sores, Anddesiring to be fedwiththecrumbs which fellfromthe rich man's table: moreoverthedogscame and lickedhissores. And it came to pass, that thebeggardied, andwascarriedbytheangelsintoAbraham's bosom: the rich manalsodied, and was buried; Andinhell he lifted uphiseyes, beingintorments, and seethAbraham afar off, andLazarusinhisbosom. Andhecried and said, FatherAbraham, have mercy on me, andsendLazarus, that he may dipthetip of hisfinger in water, andcoolmytongue; for I am tormentedinthisflame. ButAbrahamsaid, Son, rememberthatthouinthylifetimereceivedstthy good things, andlikewiseLazarus evil things: butnowhe is comforted, andthou art tormented. Andbesideallthis, betweenusandyou there is a greatgulffixed: so that they which wouldpass from hencetoyoucannot; neither can they passtous, that would come from thence. Then he said, I praytheetherefore, father, that thou wouldest sendhimtomyfather's house: For I havefivebrethren; that he may testify unto them, lesttheyalsocomeintothisplace of torment. Abrahamsaith unto him, They haveMosesandtheprophets; let them hearthem. Andhesaid, Nay, fatherAbraham: butifonewentuntothemfrom the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hearnotMosesandtheprophets, neither will they be persuaded, thoughonerosefrom the dead.
