In the mean time, when there were gathered togetheran innumerable multitudeof people, insomuch thatthey trodone upon another, he beganto sayuntohisdisciplesfirst of all, Bewareyeoftheleaven of thePharisees, whichishypocrisy. For there isnothingcovered, that shall not be revealed; neitherhid, that shall not be known. Thereforewhatsoever ye have spokenindarkness shall be heardinthelight; and that which ye have spokenintheearinclosets shall be proclaimeduponthehousetops. And I say unto youmyfriends, Be not afraidof them that killthebody, andafterthathavenomore that they can do. But I will forewarnyouwhom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killedhathpower to castintohell; yea, I say unto you, Fearhim. Are notfivesparrowssold for twofarthings, andnotoneofthemisforgottenbeforeGod? Buteventhe very hairs of yourhead are allnumbered. Fearnottherefore: ye are of more value than manysparrows. Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confessmebeforemen, him shall theSon of manalsoconfessbeforetheangels of God: But he that deniethmebeforemen shall be deniedbeforetheangels of God. Andwhosoever shall speak a wordagainsttheSon of man, it shall be forgivenhim: but unto him that blasphemethagainsttheHolyGhost it shall not be forgiven. Andwhen they bringyouuntothesynagogues, and unto magistrates, andpowers, take ye no thoughthowor what thing ye shall answer, orwhat ye shall say: FortheHolyGhost shall teachyouinthesamehourwhat ye ought to say. Andoneofthecompanysaidunto him, Master, speakto mybrother, that he dividetheinheritancewithme. Andhesaidunto him, Man, whomademe a judgeor a divideroveryou? Andhe saiduntothem, Take heed, andbewareofcovetousness: for a man's lifeconsistethnot in the abundanceof the things which he possesseth. Andhe spakea parableuntothem, saying, Theground of a certainrichman brought forth plentifully: And he thoughtwithinhimself, saying, What shall I do, because I haveno room where to bestowmyfruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull downmybarns, andbuildgreater; andthere will I bestowallmyfruitsandmygoods. And I will say to mysoul, Soul, thou hastmuchgoods laid upformanyyears; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. ButGodsaid unto him, Thou fool, thisnightthysoul shall be requiredofthee: thenwhose shall those thingsbe, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not richtowardGod. Andhe saiduntohisdisciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for yourlife, what ye shall eat; neither for thebody, what ye shall put on. Thelifeismore than meat, andthebody is more than raiment. Considertheravens: for they neithersownorreap; whichneitherhavestorehousenorbarn; andGodfeedeththem: how muchmore are ye better than thefowls? Andwhichofyou with taking thoughtcanaddtohisstatureonecubit? If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thoughtfortherest? Considerthelilieshow they grow: they toilnot, they spinnot; and yet I say unto you, that Solomoninallhisglory was notarrayedlikeone of these. If then Godsoclothethegrass, which istodayinthefield, andtomorrow is castinto the oven; how muchmore will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? Andseeknotyewhat ye shall eat, orwhat ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. Forall these things do thenations of theworld seek after: andyourFatherknoweththat ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye thekingdom of God; andall these things shall be added unto you. Fearnot, littleflock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to giveyouthekingdom. Sell that ye have, andgivealms; provideyourselvesbags which wax not old, a treasureintheheavens that faileth not, wherenothiefapproacheth, neithermothcorrupteth. Forwhereyourtreasureis, there will yourheartbealso. Let yourloinsbe girded about, and your lightsburning; And ye yourselves like untomen that wait fortheirlord, when he will returnfromthewedding; that when he comethandknocketh, they may open unto himimmediately. Blessed are thoseservants, whomthelord when he cometh shall findwatching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and servethem. Andif he shall comeinthesecondwatch, orcomeinthethirdwatch, andfind them so, blessedarethoseservants. Andthisknow, thatifthe goodman of the house had knownwhathourthethief would come, he would have watched, andnot have sufferedhishouse to be broken through. Beyethereforereadyalso: fortheSon of mancomethat an hour when ye thinknot. ThenPetersaidunto him, Lord, speakestthou thisparableuntous, oreventoall? AndtheLordsaid, Whothenis that faithfulandwisesteward, whom his lord shall make ruleroverhishousehold, to give them their portion of meatin due season? Blessed is thatservant, whomhislord when he cometh shall findsodoing. Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruleroverall that he hath. But and ifthatservantsayinhisheart, Mylorddelayeth his coming; and shall begin to beatthemenservantsandmaidens, and to eatanddrink, and to be drunken; Thelord of thatservant will comein a daywhen he looketh not for him, andat an hourwhen he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appointhim his portionwiththeunbelievers. Andthatservant, which knewhislord's will, andpreparednot himself, neitherdid according tohiswill, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knewnot, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoevermuch is given, ofhim shall be muchrequired: and to whom men have committedmuch, of him they will ask the more. I am come to sendfireontheearth; andwhatwill I, if it be alreadykindled? But I have a baptism to be baptized with; andhow am I straitenedtillit be accomplished! Suppose ye that I am come to givepeaceonearth? I tellyou, Nay; butratherdivision: Forfromhenceforth there shall befiveinonehousedivided, threeagainsttwo, andtwoagainstthree. The father shall be dividedagainst the son, and the sonagainst the father; the motheragainst the daughter, and the daughteragainst the mother; the mother in lawagainsther daughter in law, and the daughter in lawagainsther mother in law. Andhe saidalsoto thepeople, When ye see a cloudrise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; andso it is. Andwhen ye see the south windblow, ye say, There will beheat; and it cometh to pass. Ye hypocrites, ye candiscerntheface of theskyand of theearth; buthow is it that ye do notdiscernthistime? Yea, andwhyevenofyourselvesjudge ye not what is right? When thou goestwiththineadversaryto the magistrate, as thou art intheway, givediligence that thou mayest be deliveredfromhim; lest he haletheetothejudge, andthejudgedeliverthee to theofficer, andtheofficercasttheeintoprison. I tellthee, thou shalt notdepartthence, till thou hast paidtheverylastmite.
