Thencame togetheruntohimthePharisees, andcertainof thescribes, which camefromJerusalem. Andwhen they sawsomeof hisdiscipleseatbreadwith defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault. ForthePharisees, andalltheJews, exceptthey wash their handsoft, eatnot, holdingthetraditionof theelders. And when they come fromthe market, exceptthey wash, they eatnot. Andmanyother thingsthere be, whichthey have receivedto hold, as the washingof cups, andpots, brazen vessels, andof tables. ThenthePhariseesandscribesaskedhim, Whywalknotthydisciplesaccordingto thetraditionof theelders, buteatbreadwith unwashenhands? Heansweredand saidunto them, Well hath Isaiahprophesiedofyouhypocrites, as it is written, Thispeoplehonorethme with their lips, buttheirheart is farfromme. Howbeit in vain do they worshipme, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying asidethecommandment of God, ye holdthetradition of men, as the washing of potsandcups: andmanyothersuch like things ye do. Andhe saidunto them, Full well ye rejectthecommandment of God, that ye may keep your owntradition. ForMosessaid, Honorthyfatherandthymother; and, whoso cursethfatherormother, let him die the death: Butyesay, If a man shall say to his fatherormother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profitedbyme; he shall be free . And ye sufferhim no more to doaught for hisfatherorhismother; Making the word of God of none effect through yourtradition, which ye have delivered: andmanysuch like thingsdo ye. Andwhen he had calledallthepeople unto him, he saidunto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, andunderstand: There isnothing from without a man, thatenteringintohimcandefilehim: but the things which come out ofhim, thoseare they that defiletheman. If any manhaveears to hear, let him hear. Andwhenhe was enteredintothe housefromthepeople, hisdisciplesaskedhimconcerningtheparable. Andhe saithunto them, Areyeso without understandingalso? Do ye notperceive, that whatsoever thing from withoutenterethintotheman, it cannotdefilehim; Because it enterethnotintohisheart, butintothebelly, and goeth outintothedraught, purgingallmeats? Andhe said, That which cometh out oftheman, thatdefileththeman. For from within, out oftheheart of men, proceedevilthoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evileye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: Allthese evil thingscome from within, anddefiletheman. Andfrom thencehe arose, and wentintothebordersof TyreandSidon, andenteredintoa house, and wouldhave no manknow it, buthe couldnotbe hid. Fora certain woman, whoseyoung daughterhadan uncleanspirit, heardofhim, and cameand fellathisfeet: Thewomanwasa Greek, a Syrophenicianby nation; andshe besoughthimthathe would cast forththedevilout ofherdaughter. ButJesussaidunto her, Letthechildrenfirst be filled: for it isnotmeet to takethechildren's bread, and to cast it unto thedogs. Andsheansweredandsaidunto him, Yes, Lord: yetthedogsunderthetableeatofthechildren's crumbs. Andhe saidunto her, Forthissaying go thy way; thedevil is gone out ofthydaughter. Andwhen she was cometoherhouse, she foundthedevilgone out, andher daughterlaiduponthebed. Andagain, departingfromthecoastsof TyreandSidon, he cameuntotheseaof Galilee, throughthe midstof thecoastsof Decapolis. Andthey bringunto himone that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; andthey beseechhimtoput his hand uponhim. Andhe tookhimasidefromthemultitude, and puthisfingersintohisears, andhe spit, and touchedhistongue; Andlooking uptoheaven, he sighed, andsaithunto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. Andstraightwayhisearswere opened, andthestringof histonguewas loosed, andhe spakeplain. Andhe chargedthemthatthey should tellno man: butthe morehechargedthem, so much the morea great dealthey published it ; Andwere beyond measureastonished, saying, He hath doneall thingswell: he makethboththedeafto hear, andthedumbto speak.
