AndPilateaskedhim, ArtthoutheKingof theJews? Andheansweringsaidunto him, Thousayest it. Andthechief priestsaccusedhimof many things: butheanswerednothing. AndPilateaskedhimagain, saying, Answerestthounothing? beholdhow many thingsthey witness againstthee. ButJesusyetanswerednothing; so thatPilatemarveled. Nowat that feasthe releasedunto themoneprisoner, whomsoeverthey desired. Andthere was one namedBarabbas, which lay boundwiththem that had made insurrection with him, whohad committedmurderintheinsurrection. Andthemultitudecrying aloudbeganto desire him to do ashe had everdoneunto them. ButPilateansweredthem, saying, Willye that I releaseunto youtheKingof theJews? Forhe knewthatthechief priestshad deliveredhimforenvy. Butthechief priestsmovedthepeople, thathe should ratherreleaseBarabbasunto them. AndPilateansweredand saidagainunto them, Whatwillye thenthat I shall do unto him whomye calltheKingof theJews? Andtheycried outagain, Crucifyhim. ThenPilatesaidunto them, Why, whatevilhath he done? Andtheycried outthe more exceedingly, Crucifyhim. And so Pilate, willingto contentthepeople, releasedBarabbasunto them, anddeliveredJesus, when he had scourged him, tobe crucified. Andthesoldiersled him awayintothehall, calledPraetorium; andthey call togetherthewholeband. Andthey clothed him withpurple, andplaiteda crownof thorns, and put it abouthis head, Andbeganto salutehim, Hail, Kingof theJews! Andthey smotehimon theheadwith a reed, anddid spit uponhim, andbowing their kneesworshipedhim. Andwhenthey had mockedhim, they took offthepurplefrom him, andput his own clothes onhim, andled him outtocrucifyhim. Andthey compeloneSimona Cyrenian, who passed by, comingout ofthe country, thefatherof AlexanderandRufus, tobearhiscross. Andthey bringhimuntothe placeGolgotha, which is, being interpreted, The placeof a skull. Andthey gavehimto drinkwinemingled with myrrh: buthereceived it not. Andwhen they had crucifiedhim, they partedhisgarments, castinglotsuponthem, what every manshould take. Andit wasthe thirdhour, andthey crucifiedhim. Andthesuperscriptionof hisaccusationwaswritten over, THEKINGOF THEJEWS. Andwithhimthey crucifytwothieves; the oneonhis right hand, andthe otheronhisleft. AndtheScripturewas fulfilled, which saith, Andhe was numberedwiththe transgressors. Andthey that passed byrailed onhim, waggingtheirheads, andsaying, Ah, thou that destroyestthetemple, andbuildest it inthreedays, Savethyself, andcome downfromthecross. Likewisealsothechief priestsmockingsaidamongthemselveswiththescribes, He savedothers; himselfhe cannotsave. Let ChristtheKingof Israeldescendnowfromthecross, thatwe may seeandbelieve. Andthey that were crucified withhimreviledhim. Andwhen the sixthhourwas come, there wasdarknessoverthewholelanduntilthe ninthhour. Andat theninthhourJesuscriedwith a loudvoice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lamasabachthani? which is, being interpreted, MyGod, myGod, whyhast thou forsakenme? Andsomeof them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he callethElijah. Andoneranandfilled a sponge fullof vinegar, andput it ona reed, andgave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us seewhetherElijahwill cometo take him down. AndJesuscriedwith a loudvoice, and gave up the ghost. Andtheveilof thetemplewas rentintwainfromthe toptothe bottom. AndPilatemarveledifhe were already dead: andcalling unto him thecenturion, he askedhimwhetherhe had been any while dead. Andwhen he knew it ofthecenturion, he gavethebodyto Joseph. Andhe boughtfine linen, andtook him down, and wrapped him inthelinen, andlaidhimina sepulcherwhichwashewnout ofa rock, androlleda stoneuntothedoorof thesepulcher.
