Thencameto JesusscribesandPharisees, whichwere ofJerusalem, saying, Whydo thydisciplestransgressthetraditionof theelders? forthey washnottheirhandswhenthey eatbread. Butheansweredand saidunto them, Why do yealsotransgressthecommandment of Godbyyourtradition? ForGodcommanded, saying, Honorthyfatherandmother: and, He that cursethfatherormother, let him die the death. Butyesay, Whosoever shall say to his fatheror his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profitedbyme; Andhonornothisfatherorhismother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effectbyyourtradition. Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiahprophesyofyou, saying, Thispeople draweth nigh unto me with theirmouth, andhonorethme with their lips; buttheirheartisfarfromme. But in vain they do worshipme, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Andhe calledthemultitude, and saidunto them, Hear, andunderstand: Not that which goethintothemouthdefileth a man; but that which comethout of themouth, thisdefileth a man. Thencamehisdisciples, and saidunto him, Knowestthou thatthePhariseeswere offended, after they heardthis saying? Butheansweredand said, Everyplant, whichmyheavenlyFather hath notplanted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they beblindleaders of the blind. Andif the blindlead the blind, both shall fallinto the ditch. ThenansweredPeterand saidunto him, Declareunto usthisparable. AndJesussaid, Areyealsoyet without understanding? Do not ye yetunderstand, thatwhatsoeverenterethin at themouthgoethintothebelly, and is cast outinto the draught? But those things which proceed out ofthemouth come forthfromtheheart; and theydefiletheman. Forout of theheartproceedevilthoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: Theseare the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashenhandsdefilethnot a man. ThenJesuscalledhisdisciples unto him, and said, I have compassiononthemultitude, because they continue withmenowthreedays, andhavenothing to eat: and I willnot send them awayfasting, lest they faintintheway.
