Andit came to pass, whenJesushad made an endof commandinghistwelvedisciples, he departedthenceto teachandto preachintheircities. Nowwhen Johnhad heardintheprisontheworksof Christ, he senttwoof hisdisciples, And saidunto him, Artthouhe that should come, ordo we lookfor another? Jesusansweredand saidunto them, Go and show John again those things which ye do hearandsee: The blind receive their sight, and the lamewalk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deafhear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. Andblessedis he, whosoever shall not be offendedinme. Andas theydeparted, Jesusbeganto sayunto themultitudesconcerningJohn, What went ye outintothewilderness to see? A reedshakenwith the wind? Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath notrisen a greater than JohntheBaptist: notwithstanding he that is leastinthekingdom of heavenisgreater than he. ForJohncameneithereatingnordrinking, and they say, He hath a devil. TheSon of mancameeatinganddrinking, and they say, Behold a mangluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicansandsinners. Butwisdom is justifiedofherchildren. Thenbeganhe to upbraidthecitieswhereinmostof hismighty workswere done, becausethey repentednot: Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! forifthe mighty works, which were doneinyou, had been doneinTyreandSidon, they would have repented long agoinsackclothandashes. But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for TyreandSidonat the day of judgment, than for you. Andthou, Capernaum, which art exalteduntoheaven, shalt be brought downtohell: forifthe mighty works, which have been doneinthee, had been doneinSodom, it would have remaineduntil this day. But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom, in the day of judgment, than for thee.
