And Jonahbeganto enterinto the cityaday's journey, and he cried, and said, Yetfortydays, and Ninevehshall be overthrown. So the peopleof NinevehbelievedGod, and proclaimeda fast, and put onsackcloth, from the greatestof them even tothe leastof them. For wordcameuntothe kingof Nineveh, and he arosefrom his throne, and he laidhis robefromhim, and covered him with sackcloth, and satinashes. And he caused it to be proclaimedand publishedthrough Ninevehby the decreeof the kingand his nobles, saying, Let neithermannor beast, herdnor flock, tasteany thing: let them notfeed, nordrinkwater: But let manand beastbe coveredwith sackcloth, and crymightilyuntoGod: yea, let them turnevery onefrom his evilway, and fromthe violencethat is in their hands. Whocan tell if Godwill turnand repent, and turn awayfrom his fierceanger, that we perishnot? And Godsawtheir works, thatthey turnedfrom their evilway; and Godrepentedofthe evil, thathe had saidthat he would dounto them; and he did it not.
