The visionof Obadiah. Thussaiththe LordGODconcerning Edom; We have hearda rumorfromthe LORD, and an ambassadoris sentamong the heathen, Ariseye, and let us rise upagainsther in battle. Behold, I have madethee smallamong the heathen: thouart greatlydespised. The prideof thine hearthath deceivedthee, thou that dwellestin the cleftsof the rock, whose habitation is high; that saithin his heart, Whoshall bring me downto the ground? Thoughthou exalt thyself as the eagle, and thoughthou setthy nestamongthe stars, thencewill I bring thee down, saiththe LORD. Ifthievescameto thee, ifrobbersby night, ( howart thou cut off!) would they nothave stolentill they had enough? ifthe grape gathererscameto thee, would they notleave some grapes? Howare the things of Esausearched out! how are his hidden thingssought up! Allthe menof thy confederacyhave broughtthee even tothe border: the menthat were at peacewith thee have deceivedthee, and prevailedagainst thee; they that eat thy breadhave laida woundunderthee: there is noneunderstandingin him. Shall I notin thatday, saiththe LORD, even destroythe wise men out of Edom, and understandingout of the mountof Esau? And thy mighty men , O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end thatevery oneof the mountof Esaumay be cut offby slaughter. For thy violenceagainst thy brotherJacobshameshall coverthee, and thou shalt be cut offforever. In the daythat thou stoodeston the other side, in the daythat the strangerscarried away captivehis forces, and foreignersentered intohis gates, and castlotsuponJerusalem, eventhou wast as oneofthem. But thou shouldest nothave lookedon the dayof thy brotherin the daythat he became a stranger; neithershouldest thou have rejoicedover the childrenof Judahin the dayof their destruction; neithershouldest thou have spoken proudlyin the dayof distress. Thou shouldest nothave enteredinto the gateof my peoplein the dayof their calamity; yea, thoushouldest nothave lookedon their afflictionin the dayof their calamity, norhave laid hands on their substancein the dayof their calamity; Neithershouldest thou have stoodinthe crossway, to cut offthose of his that did escape; neithershouldest thou have delivered upthose of his that did remainin the dayof distress. Forthe dayof the LORD is nearuponallthe heathen: asthou hast done, it shall be doneunto thee: thy rewardshall returnupon thine own head. Forasye have drunkuponmy holymountain, so shall allthe heathendrinkcontinually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall beas though they had notbeen. But upon mountZionshall bedeliverance, and there shall beholiness; and the houseof Jacobshall possesstheir possessions. And the houseof Jacobshall bea fire, and the houseof Josepha flame, and the houseof Esaufor stubble, and they shall kindlein them, and devourthem; and there shall notbe any remainingof the houseof Esau; forthe LORDhath spoken it . And they of the southshall possessthe mountof Esau; and they of the plainthe Philistines: and they shall possessthe fieldsof Ephraim, and the fieldsof Samaria: and Benjamin shall possess Gilead. And the captivityof thishostof the childrenof Israel shall possess thatof the Canaanites, even untoZarephath; and the captivityof Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possessthe citiesof the south. And saviorsshall come upon mountZionto judgethe mountof Esau; and the kingdomshall bethe LORD's.
