When I would have healedIsrael, then the iniquityof Ephraimwas discovered, and the wickednessof Samaria: forthey commitfalsehood; and the thiefcometh in, and the troop of robbersspoilethwithout. And they considernotin their hearts that I rememberalltheir wickedness: nowtheir own doingshave beset them about; they arebeforemy face. They make the king gladwith their wickedness, and the princeswith their lies. They are alladulterers, asan ovenheatedbythe baker, who ceasethfrom raisingafter he hath kneadedthe dough, untilit be leavened. In the dayof our kingthe princeshave made him sickwith bottlesof wine; he stretched outhis handwithscorners. Forthey have made readytheir heartlike an oven, while they lie in wait: their bakersleepethallthe night; in the morningitburnethas a flamingfire. They are all hotas an oven, and have devouredtheir judges; alltheir kingsare fallen: there is noneamong them that callethuntome. Ephraim, hehath mixed himselfamong the people; Ephraimisa cakenotturned. Strangershave devouredhis strength, and heknoweth it not: yea, gray hairsare here and thereupon him, yet heknowethnot. And the prideof Israeltestifiethto his face: and they do notreturntothe LORDtheir God, norseekhim for allthis. Ephraimalso islike a sillydovewithoutheart: they callto Egypt, they goto Assyria. Whenthey shall go, I will spreadmy netuponthem; I will bring them downas the fowlsof the heaven; I will chastisethem, as their congregationhath heard. Woeunto them! forthey have fledfromme: destructionunto them! becausethey have transgressedagainst me: though Ihave redeemedthem, yet theyhave spokenliesagainstme. And they have notcrieduntome with their heart, whenthey howledupontheir beds: they assemble themselvesforcornand wine, and they rebelagainst me. Though Ihave bound and strengthenedtheir arms, yet do they imaginemischiefagainstme. They return, but notto the most High: they arelike a deceitfulbow: their princesshall fallby the swordfor the rageof their tongue: this shall be their derisionin the landof Egypt.
