In the thirdyearof the reignof kingBelshazzara visionappeareduntome, even unto meDaniel, after thatwhich appeareduntome at the first. And I sawin a vision; and it came to pass, when I saw, that I was at Shushan in the palace, which is in the provinceof Elam; and I sawin a vision, and Iwasbythe riverof Ulai. Then I lifted upmine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stoodbeforethe riveraramwhich had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higherthanthe other, and the highercame uplast. I sawthe rampushingwestward, and northward, and southward; so that nobeastsmight standbeforehim, neither was there any that could deliverout of his hand; but he didaccording to his will, and became great. And as Iwasconsidering, behold, a he goatcamefromthe westonthe faceof the wholeearth, and touchednotthe ground: and the goat had a notablehornbetweenhis eyes. And he cametothe ramthat had two horns, whichI had seenstandingbeforethe river, and ranuntohim in the furyof his power. And I sawhim come closeuntothe ram, and he was moved with angeragainsthim, and smotethe ram, and brokehis twohorns: and there wasnopowerin the ramto standbeforehim, but he cast him downto the ground, and stamped uponhim: and there wasnonethat could deliverthe ramout of his hand. Therefore the he goatwaxed very great: and when he was strong, the greathornwas broken; and forit came upfournotable onestoward the fourwindsof heaven. And out ofoneofthem came forthalittlehorn, which waxed exceeding great, towardthe south, and towardthe east, and towardthe pleasant land . And it waxed great, even tothe hostof heaven; and it cast down some ofthe hostand ofthe starsto the ground, and stamped uponthem. Yea, he magnified himself even tothe princeof the host, and byhim the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the placeof his sanctuarywas cast down. And a hostwas given him againstthe daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast downthe truthto the ground; and it practiced, and prospered. Then I heardonesaintspeaking, and anothersaintsaidunto that certain saint which spoke, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice , and the transgressionof desolation, to giveboth the sanctuaryand the hostto be trodden under foot? And he saiduntome, Untotwo thousandand threehundreddays; then shall the sanctuarybe cleansed. And it came to pass, when I, even IDaniel, had seenthe vision, and soughtfor the meaning, then, behold, there stoodbeforeme as the appearanceof a man. And I hearda man's voicebetween the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understandthe vision. So he camenearwhere I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and felluponmy face: but he saiduntome, Understand, O sonof man: forat the timeof the end shall be the vision. Now as he was speakingwithme, I was in a deep sleeponmy facetoward the ground: but he touchedme, and setme upright. And he said, Behold, I will make thee knowwhatshall bein the last endof the indignation: forat the time appointedthe end shall be . The ramwhichthou sawesthaving two horns are the kingsof Mediaand Persia. And the roughgoat is the kingof Greece: and the greathornthat is betweenhis eyes is the firstking. Now that being broken, whereas fourstood upforit, fourkingdomsshall stand upout of the nation, but notin his power. And in the latter timeof their kingdom, when the transgressorsare come to the full, a kingof fiercecountenance, and understandingdark sentences, shall stand up. And his powershall be mighty, but notby his own power: and he shall destroywonderfully, and shall prosper, and practice, and shall destroythe mightyand the holypeople. And throughhis policyalso he shall cause craftto prosperin his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peaceshall destroymany: he shall also stand upagainstthe Princeof princes; but he shall be brokenwithouthand. And the visionof the eveningand the morningwhichwas told is true: wherefore shut thou upthe vision; forit shall be for manydays. And IDanielfainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and didthe king's business; and I was astonishedatthe vision, but noneunderstood it .
